An image from the archives for you today. Sittingbourne cattle market. September 1961. Although it may not seem so today, agriculture was once very important to our town's economy. Rural life spilled into the town centre, with the cattle market being held in the area around where Sainsbury's is now. The Olde Bull Inn was once the regular meeting place of local farmers and our old town hall, a grand building which once stood where Nat West is now, started it's life as a corn exchange. Local historian Helen Allinson and our Museum volunteers have been busy working on our new book and it's nearly here!! We are doing two book launches, one at Sittingbourne Library on 27th October and one at the historic Milton Church on 31st October. Both events will have a display of Milton photos and ephemera, and Milton Court Hall Museum will be joining us at the church. The usual retail price for the book will be £14 but there will be an introductory offer of just £11 at these special events, so don't miss out!!

A big thank you to everyone who came along to Helen Allinson's brilliant talk on the history of Bredgar this morning, at The Avenue Theatre.
