St Barbe Museum + Art Gallery

St Barbe Museum + Art Gallery Local History and Art Exhibitions The strip of land between the New Forest and the Solent has a colourful history.

It is an area that has been inhabited by smugglers, salt makers, boat builders and yachtsmen as well as farmers, soldiers, shopkeepers and holiday makers. St Barbe Museum looks at the stories of these people and shows how their activities have shaped Lymington, New Milton and the surrounding villages. The family-friendly displays feature many games and activities as well as costume to try on and o

riginal objects to handle. Our two art galleries host a changing programme of fascinating local history and stunning art exhibitions. In addition the museum run a programme of events for adults, family events for the school holidays and talks and events for Friends and supporters of the museum.

This is how lovely and peaceful the New Forest was in 1927 and still is today!

Every single independent business in the New Forest is excited to welcome you and thrives on your incredible support. 💚

Our gift shop is filled with handmade products & artwork from local artists and our independent café serves delicious light lunches, cakes & coffees. 🖼️ ☕️ 🍰

The tourist information is a part of our shop too, where you will find leaflets for nice walks, bus time tables and all sort of information about the best attractions and days out in the New Forest! 🥾🧭

Talking about days out, our exhibition 'Elmer and Mr Benn: the Magic of David McKee' has got something for everyone. 🌈

We are open daily, 10am-4pm and are looking forward to welcoming you soon.

This week’s is an oil painting by Creswell Desmond, showing ponies crossing the old Boldre Bridge, Boldre, Hampshire, before it was widened in 1927.
