Merry Christmas from Severndroog Castle!

The tearoom Christmas elves are taking their well-deserved break today, and will be back tomorrow from 10am - 3pm with treats to fuel your Boxing Day walk in the woods.

Thanks to Dave Gibson and Harry Robins for the film - and not forgetting thanks to Santa for joining us for Christmas at the Castle

24/12/2020

Santa had worked all day, and it had been fun
But even after all that, he still wasn't done
"I've one more job left, that much is clear,
To wish you all a Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year!"

We are grateful to Santa for making a socially-distanced visit to the Castle to wish you all a Merry Christmas from all of us at Severndroog. We look forward to seeing you again in 2021!

Our special visitor has dropped back to Severndroog for Christmas at the Castle 2020:

He stopped by the window, beneath the chandelier

He could not stay long, that much was true
So he heads to the roof where there was plenty to do...

Right now we are all looking for safe outdoor activities, so instead of your regular walk in the park, doing a Family Story Trail could be a new tradition this year. And our friends from @TD4LP are great at creating unique Story Maps.

The perfect stocking filler and family activity, 2 in 1.

Work together as a team and help Count Silvester of Severndroog return to his home planet, Slore, with this escape room style family mission through Castle Wood. Get your story map from the Tearoom (open for takeaway on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day from 10am - 3pm) or online from tdlp.co.uk/shop

We've had a very special visitor dropping by the Castle recently... keep an eye out up to Christmas Eve for more from Santa:

"Christmas is approaching", said Santa with glee,
"though there's still plenty of work, for the reindeer and me".
"I need a view of London, and they need to graze,
so Severndroog Castle is the perfect place"...

Carols at the Castle

For Christmas at the Castle 2020, we were joined in the courtyard at Severndroog by a small group of singers from the wonderful Eltham Choral Society. The singers entertained tearoom customers with a selection of traditional carols, and we thought you'd like to hear them too.

Christmas at the Castle continues online this week, and the Tearoom will be open for takeaway on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day. So drop by for a hot chocolate or mince pie when out for your woodland walk.

The performance and recording were socially distanced and in line with Covid restrictions at the time of the event. With thanks to our volunteer Pat, and the singers from Eltham Choral Society for bringing live music to the castle this Christmas.

Our Story

This 18th century Gothic tower, with 360° views of London, was built in ancient woodland by Lady Ann James in memory of her husband, Commodore Sir William James of the East India Company.

The castle is perched on one of South-East London's highest points and offers exceptional views of London and its surrounding counties. When visiting, you can also tour the rest of the building and learn about its rich history, as well as explore the surrounding woodland. For a welcomed break, the Tearoom offers an array of hot drinks, lunches and homemade cakes.

Severndroog Castle also hosts an exciting programme of events for all ages, and is available for private hire (weddings and parties). For more information, please visit our website www.SeverndroogCastle.org.uk.

Viewing platform open Sundays 10:00-15:30. Tearoom open Thursday-Sunday, 10:00-16:00.
