Did you spot Severndroog looking absolutely gorgeous on this week’s Channel 4 Location Location Location episode? We were thrilled that Peter and Kate chose the Castle to show off what makes Shooters Hill such a special place. And back last summer, a group of our volunteers had a fun afternoon welcoming their lovely family into Severndroog with the film crew, and getting a sneak peak at how the programme gets made.

Severndroog is powered by our volunteers. Volunteering at the Castle is an enjoyable and varied role that centres around sharing this very special building with as many people as possible: from welcoming members of the public up to the roof each Sunday to take in those spectacular views to supporting getting the TV cameras in.

Stargazing from the Severndroog Roof with the Flamsteed Astronomy Society is back on Wednesday 18 November - and tickets are very limited!

Stargazing from the Roof with the Flamsteed Astronomy Society returns on Wednesday 18th November. Join us for a journey of discovery, in small groups of just four people. You’ll head to our rooftop viewing platform, where you can explore the night sky through telescopes and smart scopes, with red lights provided to protect your night vision. Each session lasts approximately 40 minutes.

Timed tickets are £16.50 including booking fee and a hot drink after your star gazing experience. Tickets are valid only for the time booked.

On Friday we hosted our final Eltham Library Spoken Word and Poetry Open Mic night at the Castle before they head back home next month. Some of the artists participating in the event posed with our volunteers at the end of the evening for this lovely photo.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to host Royal Greenwich Libraries and so many talented writers and performers while the library refurbishment was underway. We are delighted that they will be returning to Severndroog next summer.

As autumn closes in, Eltham Library’s team will be moving inside the Castle this Friday evening for a takeover of our beautiful first floor Lady James Room at Severndroog for their regular monthly open mic evening **Please note the Lady James Room is accessed via a spiral staircase, there is no lift at Severndroog Castle**

Friday 25th September

Door open & sign up at 6pm
Performances start at 6.30pm

Arrive early to toss your name in the hat for open mic slots. The Severndroog Tea Room will be open selling teas, coffees, cold snacks and w**e.

Calling all writers and poets, we need you! Are you interested in sharing your poetry with others? Looking for inspiration for poems of your own? Want a fun night out full of wordy, nerdy goodness?

Have you heard? We had a Chaser at the Castle last night! The Sinnerman himself came to Severndroog, headlining our season finale Comedy at the Castle in the Woods at short notice. And what a set it was, hilarious but also deeply personal and moving, earning a standing ovation from the sell-out crowd.

We are very grateful to Paul Sinha for stepping in, and send our best wishes to Dominic Holland for a swift recovery. Dominic Holland

Christmas Wreath Making at Severndroog Castle is a lovely evening, led once again this year by Celine Sophie Seasonal Workshops you’ll make your own beautiful and natural wreath to take home.

Start your evening with a glass of mulled w**e and a mince pie and then, with Christmas music playing in the background, our tutors Celine and Sophie from Celine Sophie Seasonal Workshops will guide you through designing and making your own beautiful wreath. All tools and materials are provided, and it’s a lovely atmosphere creating together. To round off the evening, our volunteers will take you up to the roof for a rare peak at the lights of London after dark from our viewing platform.
