Help Keep Avivson Gallery Open in Highgate

Since 2018, Avivson Gallery has been more than simply a place in which art is bought and sold. It has become an open and welcoming cultural space where local residents, visitors, established artists and people taking their first creative steps can meet, discover new work and feel part of something worthwhile.
We are open to the public seven days a week. Anyone can walk through our door, enjoy the exhibitions and talk to us about the art, without feeling any obligation to buy. At a time when many galleries must concentrate almost entirely on established and commercially successful names, we remain committed to giving emerging and lesser known artists a genuine opportunity to be seen.
My wife, Kate, and I run Avivson together. We organise regular exhibitions featuring artists whose work we already admire, alongside new discoveries whom we believe deserve a wider audience. Several times each year, we also make the gallery available at an affordable cost to artists who wish to present their own exhibitions.
For artists with limited experience of exhibiting, we often provide far more than a room. We help them select and prepare their work, plan the exhibition, arrange the display, produce a catalogue, write a professional biography and present themselves confidently to the public. For some, this is their first opportunity to hold a proper exhibition and to begin turning private creativity into a public career.
The response from Highgate and the wider community has been extraordinary. We welcome people of every age and background, including many who might never ordinarily think of entering an art gallery. That openness is central to everything we do.
However, maintaining an independent gallery has become increasingly difficult. Rising operating costs, business rates and repayments on borrowing taken on during the pandemic have placed Avivson under considerable financial pressure.
