Executed in 1978, Visionary Wave Crest is an evocative example of Yayoi Kusama’s celebrated Infinity Net series, a body of work that has become central to her practice. First introduced in New York in 1959, the Infinity Nets marked Kusama’s breakthrough, establishing her distinctive language through dense, repeating patterns.

Kusama returned to Japan in 1975 and took up residence at the SAYWA Hospital in Tokyo, where she has continued to live and work.

Created using enamel and acrylic on canvas, the work has a unique and impressive texture. The painting is currently on view at the gallery this summer.

Eugène Boudin and Camille Pissarro were prominent nineteenth-century French artists, both of whom frequently depicted coastal and riverside scenes.

Pissarro’s Bords de l’Oise, Environs de Pontoise was painted in 1872. Having first visited Pontoise in the 1860s, he returned in 1872 and made the area his home for the following decade. The Oise and its surrounding landscape became recurring subjects, and during his time there he produced around 300 paintings.

From early in his career, Boudin repeatedly painted the ports of Le Havre, Trouville, Honfleur, and Deauville. He was particularly attentive to changing skies and atmospheric effects, qualities that Charles Baudelaire famously described as Boudin’s “meteorological beauties”. The port of Trouville exemplifies his sensitivity to the ever-changing light and atmosphere.

Camille Pissarro’s Verger à Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône en hiver is a testament to the artist’s enduring connection to the rural landscape and his mastery of the Impressionist technique. Painted in 1877, the work captures a serene moment in the French countryside, specifically depicting a winter orchard – a frequent motif that Pissarro painted during different seasons and in varying weather conditions.

Pissarro completed the work in the town of Pontoise, where he moved in 1872 and stayed for a decade. During this period, his life and work became closely linked to the town and in later life, he remembered the area particularly fondly. The rural solitude of Pontoise attracted the likes of Cézanne and Gauguin who came there to work alongside Pissarro in 1877 - the same year that Verger à Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône en hiver was painted.

At Kew Gardens in London, the largest outdoor exhibition of Henry Moore’s work is now on display.

Henry Moore: Monumental Nature brings together more than 100 works, including 30 monumental sculptures installed throughout the gardens. Running until 31 January 2027, the exhibition celebrates the enduring legacy of one of Britain’s most influential twentieth-century artists.
