Kempton Steam Museum Kempton Steam Museum – home of the world's largest working triple-expansion steam engine

Kempton is home to one of the world's largest working triple expansion steam engines, one of two commissioned in 1929 to pump water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to North & East London. The engines are housed in a magnificent Grade II listed Scheduled Monument and are open to the public on advertised dates. See events page or our website for a list of our static open days and steaming weekends.

It’s nearly time to power up the Sir William Prescott Engine and we hope you’ll join us on Saturday October 17th and Sunday October 18th to revel in living, breathing engineering history!

Almost 100 years old, the Sir William Prescott Engine at Kempton Steam Museum is the world’s largest working triple expansion steam engine, once pumping 19 million gallons of London’s drinking water every day.

Book a guided tour of the engine's twin, the Lady Bessie Prescott Engine, currently being lovingly restored by Kempton’s team of wonderful volunteer engineers.

Located with the Kempton Park Waterworks in southwest London, you’ll find us just off the A316. There’s plenty of parking, tea, cake and 800 tonnes of precision engineering in action.

Thank you to everyone who made the air electric and to every one of our volunteers that keep our museum and engine running. We had ourselves a real good time 🎸
