🌙 ☀️ ‘Night & Day’ by Ella Kilgour is now online!

This exquisite new collection of oil paintings can now be explored online, with shipping available worldwide! Each of the 45 + new paintings in this collection is an act of devotion, as Ella paints to pay close attention to the things she cares most about. Whether this is light streaming through a window, her daughter Mabel, or the figures she studies in life drawing sessions - they offer a glimpse into the shape of Ella’s life, bound by the changing rhythms of light and time.

These are paintings WELL worth experiencing up close, so please do pop in over the next month to take a look. We hope to see you soon, and in the meantime enjoy diving into the collection online via the link in bio.

Ella Kilgour’s exhibition ‘Night and Day’ takes us on a journey through the quiet rhythms of the day. Full of intimacy and gentleness, these paintings offer us an insight into Ella’s routine, her home and the things she holds dear.

We glimpse recurring objects, spaces and people throughout the collection - and one example is a print by Monet which hangs in Ella’s home. Here in ‘Monet’s Altar’ we see it in during the day - light streaming through the window to illuminate the objects gathered in front of it.

Swipe to see some of the details of this remarkable piece - a painting which my eye returns to again and again. Close attention to light on surface anchors this exhibition, and here we see Ella’s skill for using economic, creamy brushstrokes to describe the texture of the lemon and the sleek reflective metal of the jug. Look at those little impasto strokes of paint for the petals, and the tiny, delicate scratch which perfectly represents the rim of the jug. I’m in awe. 🫢 ❤️

The collection will be fully online tomorrow, but just reach out if you would like to see the catalogue in the meantime.

Wow, what a beautiful whirlwind of a weekend. We launched Ella Kilgour’s solo exhibition ‘Night and Day’ on Friday and had the loveliest of evenings.

Response to this exquisite, gentle collection of oil paintings has been remarkable - and made the last few days so joyful for us all. Thanks to everyone who attended on Friday - more photos to come soon!

For now, whilst I am working on getting the exhibition online, please enjoy some snapshots of this stunning new show. We hope you can come and see it over the next 4 weeks! ❤️🙏

A little Glasshouse family portrait ❤️

Folks, ‘Menagerie’ has been such a delight - thank you to everyone who has come to see our playful Summer Exhibition. It’s been so joyful to have the walls adorned with whimsical and surreal animal stories. And even better to see so many of them find new homes. Whilst the exhibition is now over, you can still see the artworks online and in the gallery.

Tomorrow night we are launching our next show - Ella Kilgour’s solo exhibition ‘Night and Day’. One of my favourite painters and a friend I made years ago in Australia (though we are both from Portsmouth!) I feel privileged to host Ella’s first solo in London. She is an exceptional talent. If you, like me, adore the creamy texture of oils and sensitive, painterly representation - don’t miss this new collection.

Everyone is welcome tomorrow night (Friday 28th August 6-9pm) for drinks and to meet Ella. The pre-sale catalogue will go out later today. You can get on the list via the link in bio, if you fancy it. Hope to see you soon!

Whilst tomorrow we rehang the gallery for our next exhibition, today we still have ‘Menagerie’ on our walls!

Let’s take a look at all the creatures, mythical and real, which did not feature in our previous categories. Explore a lost underwater home from Chris Thompson, let Ilona Szalay’s snake charmer enchant you, and fall in love with Beau Roberts’ delicately painted goat. Find farmyard animals, wild beasts and forest creatures large and small.

This has been an extraordinarily fun group show, and we have loved it. Hope you have too!

Day 6 | BIRDS 🦅

Almost as popular as the cats, the birds are the second largest category in Menagerie! Let’s soar through this collection of winged creatures, from birds circling the Ornithologist’s house to pigeon love stories in East London and parakeets on the South Bank. From original layered collages and vibrant screen prints to ethereal watercolours and creamy oil paintings - I think you can tell our artists had lots of fun creating these artworks. Swipe 👉🏼 to fly through the collection…

🐈 Day 4 | CATS 🐈‍⬛

Today belongs to the domestic cats! Our biggest category by far, I’ve loved seeing how many of our artists have taken inspiration from our feline companions. It’s no surprise, really, cats have padded quietly into our homes and our stories, always on their own terms. Often independent, very playful, sometimes elusive, always loving - they have a remarkable way of making themselves the centre of our worlds.

This collection explores the multi-faceted personalities of our beloved cats, from regal loungers and curious explorers to little troublemakers and affectionate shadows.

So, curl up, stretch out, and enjoy this delightful parade of whiskers, tails and paws as we wander through our gathering of magnificent cats.

Day 3 | MOTHS

Today is devoted to one of the most underrated stars of the winged insect world: the moth. Often overshadowed by its brighter butterfly cousins, I’ve always loved the quiet beauty of these night-lovers.

We begin with Julia Andrews’ Peach Peony Club and its companion piece, Pink Peony Club, where delicately detailed moths perch around the edges of soft, unfurling petals, adding a touch of whimsy to these dreamy floral compositions.

From there, we move on to Cassia Beck’s original collage artworks, where vintage book covers are transformed through layers of antique papers and gently worn textures to create poetic, abstracted representations of these gorgeous insects.

🦢Day 2 | SWANS 🦢

Today, we’re turning our attention to one of my absolute favourites: swans. There are so many winged creatures fluttering their way through this exhibition that I felt these birds deserved a category of their very own. After all, when you’re a swan, you probably expect a little special treatment. 🦢✨

Gliding their way through our imaginations for centuries, swans often appear in fairytales, myths, legends carrying layers of symbolism with them. Depending on the story, they can represent beauty, transformation, love, mystery—and sometimes something a little darker lurking beneath all that elegance.

So, today, let’s take a closer look at how swans have appeared in Menagerie, and the different ways they have been depicted by Lucy Spanyol, Alanna Eakin and Cassia Beck…
