✨ Happy National Poetry Day!

Earlier this year, we acquired the archive of Roger McGough, celebrated as β€˜the godfather of modern poetry.’

You can visit the archive in the University’s Special Collections and Archives and explore materials ranging from drafts of his autobiography to personal artworks (pictured here).

We are also delighted that he’s joining this year’s Liverpool Literary Festival organised by the University and held in our beautiful Victoria Building.

And if you’d like to celebrate National Poetry Day today, join us this afternoon as local writers perform a range of poetry in our Lightbulb moments exhibition, including readings from the Redbrick Writers, Liverpool Women Writers and more!

A first look inside St Brigid's Arms 😍

Behind every exhibition is an incredible amount of creativity. We're transforming the gallery into the fictional St Brigid's Arms, creating immersive spaces inspired by gathering places, memories and stories shared through the project.

Developed over two years by and , the exhibition is inspired by the stories and experiences of women of Irish heritage living in the North of England. We're so excited to share a sneak peek of the installation with you!

How do shared stories become an exhibition? ✨

Creators Rosarie Walsh and Lydia O'Hara share the journey behind St Brigid's Arms, from connecting through their shared Irish heritage to creating a project that has brought together women of Irish heritage to share experiences, stories and ideas.

Along the way, women of Irish heritage from different generations came together to share stories, make connections and inspire new creative work.

At its heart, St Brigid's Arms creates space for the voices, experiences and contributions of women of Irish heritage to be heard and celebrated. Now those voices and experiences have become part of the exhibition, alongside music, art, dance and film.

πŸ€ St Brigid's Arms opens at the Victoria Gallery & Museum on Saturday 3 October.
πŸ’š Just 8 days to go!

Every brick tells a story πŸ€

More than 400 cardboard bricks have been created for our St Brigid's Arms exhibition, decorated with Irish imagery, symbols and memories during workshops led by Emerald LENS CIC with women of Irish heritage across the north of England.

Each one is unique. Together, they'll form the exterior of the exhibition's St Brigid's Arms pub, bringing hundreds of individual contributions into one shared space.

With just two weeks to go, it's really starting to take shape!

Here's a first look at just a few of the bricks. πŸ‘€

St Brigid's Arms opens at the Victoria Gallery & Museum on Saturday 3 October.
