We’re getting closer to our annual Slavery Remembrance Day Walk on Sunday 23 August.

There are lots of ways to get involved in the run-up, from joining our Dance school to coming along to our talks, events and the launch of Overwriting–Underwriting, the first research pilot of the Connector Project.

At the heart of our 2026 programme is a special lecture commemorating Dorothy Kuya, featuring our keynote speaker Anita Gonzalez (Ph.D.)of Georgetown University, whose work explores race, performance, memory, and the African diaspora through global cultural perspectives.

For Slavery Remembrance Day 2026 we have connected with three creatives to produce an artistic response to the commemorations.

Liverpool-based musician, artist and creative Dayzy has chosen to dive into the history of jazz and its inextricable relationship with resistance, healing and empowerment.

For Slavery Remembrance Day 2026, we asked three creatives to produce a response to the commemorations.

Writer and film programmer Khara Linton-Salmon – creator of 'Black Girl Watching', a film club in Liverpool that specialises in promoting excellence in black film – has chosen to produce a watchlist of films that address slavery in interesting and unique ways.
