The origins of the museum started in 1971, when a group of prominent people in the village formed the “Kegworth Village Association”, which was a charitable organisation whose purpose was to raise funds ultimately for the creation of a village museum. The current museum building was finally purchased in 1990, which was formerly part of a series of farmyard barns and cowsheds. Once the building ref
urbishment was complete, Kegworth Museum was opened in 1992, as a charitable organisation. The two charities were later merged to become a single organisation known as “Kegworth Village Association and Museum”. Last year - 2017, was the 25th Anniversary of the museum, and since the “Village Association” part is now defunct (as there is now a different village group that organises events) we have changed our name to “Kegworth Heritage Centre”. First and foremost, we have a number of permanent displays of historical items. In addition to these permanent displays, we also have two further temporary displays, which are changed each year to different topics. Secondly, we also have a lot of historical reference material in our archives, both written and photographic, which people can read, browse, or use in-depth for research such as for family history. These include census records, parish birth marriage and death records, and an extensive collection of 8000+ photos. Thirdly, we also organise occasional events such as school visits, guided historical walks around the village, and until last year, an annual village Easter market event, for which the museum revived an ancient charter. Running the Easter Market has now been passed on to the One Kegworth Events Group.
