Can you imagine having a good tidy up, when you have over 10,500 things to check through?!
Our museum volunteers meet every Tuesday to work behind the scenes, and one of our current projects is auditing all of our boxes. Photographs, letters, recipe books, postcards, paper bags, accounts and documents of all kinds… we barely have space to move while working through!
We keep careful records and don’t expect may surprises, but this kind of diligence is part of our being an accredited museum, plus it may help us spot items which would benefit from additional information adding to the system (which may help them be more useful in the future) or recognise a trend of items which could form a new display.
Would you find this satisfying, or an absolute slog?
