Norfolk tank Museum was founded in 2010. Current Restoration Projects:

We are currently restoring our Centurion ARV to full running order and our AEC Militant Recovery Lorry. We are looking for information to complete our restoration of the only example of a 20/30 cwt Crossly Half track we believe to be in existence. How you can help:
Our collection is restored and maintained by volunteers. Without their hard work and dedication the collection would not be what it is today. However, we are always looking for new volunteers and materials to carry out this work. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to become involved, please contact us. If you are restoring your own Military Vehicle and need advice please contact us.

Come and see our Centurion AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) FV4003 02 BA 58 stretching her legs...

02 BA 58 served with the Royal Engineers from 1962 – 1997 and has now been returned by the museum to 1970’s Cold war era standards. 02 BA 58 was the very first centurion MBT to be converted to the AVRE specification and carried out all the pre-production trials work at the British Army Fighting Vehicle Research and Development establishment at Chertsey It was originally built as a Mk3 Main Battle Tank in the late 1940’s and is believed to have served in Korea, however, in the mid 1950’s it was converted to AVRE specification and re-issued to the British Army Royal Engineers in 1962.

It served during peace time in the U.K. and Germany and saw combat during the 1991 Gulf War, where it was fitted with additional reactive armour on the front half of the turret, in front of the driver and the first half of the bazooka plates each side. They were nick-named “The Antiques Road Show” since most of these vehicles were, by now, over 40 years old.

Busy evening in the workshop this evening

Tonight work continues on the Merritt brown gearbox z51r mkf* from the centurion ARVE.

Changing old / hard seals which have started to leak.
Main reason for removing the gearbox and clutch was to replace the rear engine main seal.

Cambrai 105. Fear Naught.

Special Order No. 6

Tomorrow the Tank Corps will have the chance for which it has been waiting for many months, to operate on good going in the van of the battle.

All that hard work and ingenuity can achieve has been done in the way of preparation.
It remains for unit Commanders and for Tank crews to complete the work by judgement and pluck in the battle itself.

In the light of past experience, I leave the good name of the Corps with great confidence in their hands.

I propose leading the attack of the centre division

17/11/2022

Whilst we are closed for the winter work carries on restoring and maintaining our vehicles:

Centurion AVRE 02 BA 58. We are lifting the gearbox to sort out an oil leak, more to follow.

Saladin Armoured Car 01 CC 69. Servicing the engine. Next, a turret lift to sort out the oil leak from the hydraulic pipes that feed the brakes and power steering system.

BV 206. Both the front and rear pods are currently off the chassis and the tracks stripped off so that we can replace the worn bearings and seals in the drive train.

Fancy being a volunteer? The Norfolk Tank Museum offers volunteering opportunities for all. As a volunteer you'll be part of an enthusiastic team, giving their time to something they feel passionately about, gaining experience and skills and being part of something bigger.

This is a photo of many years ago. My father is in the middle, directly under the gun of the middle tank. He was in the tank corps, then he transferred the the Royal Engineers, and then he transferred to REME when it was formed. I have some photos like this, and if you are interested I can email them to you. By the way my fathers army number was 787224. His name was the same as mine.

A great time was had at Forncett Industrial Steam Museum and Norfolk Tank Museum
WOW what a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend! Our guests have been checking out, and sharing what a fantastic time they've had.

We saw families and fellow campers competing against one another in our first Family Sports Day, which ended with the finale of The Big Water Dodge. Everyone got thoroughly soaked, with full buckets of water being used instead of sponges! 🤣💦🪣🚩

We also welcomed the Norfolk Mini Owners Club, who stayed on Grove Meadow for their annual get together. The members enjoyed a fun packed weekend of games, activities and put on a stunning light display with their minis. On Sunday they took a drive to the Norfolk Tank Museum which was a real sight to see as the minis headed out together in convoy - there were so many different colours, models and modifications!

A thank you to all our Street Food vans The Treat Trailer, Peaky Pizzas, Event Bar Hire, Suffolkspicefusion, The Chocolate Bar Baker, Dirty Fryer Boys, Debbie's Dinky Donuts who served up some delicious dishes and sweet treats over the weekend too.

Check out some of our photos from the weekend’s events and if you snapped some great pictures too then we'd love to see them - feel free to add any in the comments 👇
