It is with heavy hearts that it has been decided that we will not be holding the traditional Prickwillow Ploughing Festival in the foreseeable future in its current form.
The trustees of the Museum, together with the Clarke family, whose support of the Museum continues to be appreciated, have reluctantly taken the decision due to spiralling costs of organising and running the event, together with the increasing strain on the farm activities.
Things have been exacerbated in recent years by the inclement weather. This was particularly the case in 2019 when the wet weather and consequential deterioration in ground conditions caused cancellation of field activities and a severe drop in visitor numbers, and as a result in income. Bizarrely, it has been recognised that we were fortunate that the 2020 event was cancelled due to Covid, as the weather on the planned Festival dates could have led to a considerable loss, a risk which we are unable to sustain as the Museum always has to operate on very tight margins.
We would like to thank exhibitors, visitors, and volunteers for their support over the last 10 years. Since 2010, including donations, a remarkable £27,000 has been donated to Cancer Research UK, ring fenced for oesophageal cancer, in memory of Nigel Clarke.
We hope to welcome you at the planned events at the Museum in 2021. A few dates are pencilled in but please keep a watch on our website www.prickwillowmuseum.com for further day and evening event announcements when the regulations are clearer.
Tractor Run – April 25th
Bike Day – May 16th
Car Day – June 13th
Vickers Petter 100th Birthday weekend celebrations July 3rd/4th
We are hoping to resurrect our first sixties event in August. We would also welcome ideas for a new major event in September.
You can still support the Museum, as it strives to improve its exhibits and put in place Covid-secure practices ready for re-opening in the Spring, at our GoFundMe page link on our website or at https://gf.me/u/x3tij6 A big thank you to all those who have donated to date, it really helps.

We sincerely hope the ploughing festival will go ahead this year, but with our other events already cancelled the Museum will struggle to pay its unavoidable ongoing costs, which even while closed will be in the region of £8,000 for the year. Although we are hoping for some help for this from Government and Share schemes we would be grateful for any further individual donations that can help keep this unique venue ready to be fully functional when restrictions are lifted.

Great article in the Ely Standard this week, and we have a record number of heavy horses this year which will be ploughing and harrowing!
Unfortunately they have quoted the admission prices for a museum run day rather than for the Ploughing Festival.
Admission of £7.50 per person, accompanied children under 16 free, or a 2 day pass for £12, includes all the fun of the festival and admission to the museum. You won't be disappointed!

28/09/2017

This year at the Prickwillow Ploughing Festival there will be indoor exhibits in the museum extension and in the farm barn. The image shows the work of the some of the artists exhibiting amongst the crafts, bygones and model displays!

28/09/2017

Prickwillow Ploughing Festival will soon be here. You will be able to try your hand at screen printing for a small fee - you can bring your own tshirt - it must be a light colour and pure cotton, but it needn't be new. Pillow cases to print will be available to buy.

Prickwillow Engine Museum

Prickwillow Ploughing Festival Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October.

Gates open at 10.00am on both days, and entertainment begins on Saturday at 11.15am, with The Hobblers on stage, The Hobblers are a Folk band based in the countryside of Norfolk, and will be preforming various Folk, and Irish Folk songs which I am sure you are going to enjoy, I have also learnt amongst their list of interests include Fine Ale, Fine Cider, and Twix Bars, they sound like our type of group. The Hobblers also have a record label, so I am sure you will be able to buy some of their music.
Then taking over the stage will be “The Tildens” who in their words are a rock band in a tea cup, or possibly a folk band in a whiskey bottle. This band is a collective of talented musicians who craft a musical experience unlike any other. Included in their repertoire is Contemporary, traditional, old time blues, country and they are quoted to say you name it, and we'll give it go!
Following on during the afternoon we also have JezO a children’s entertainer with a magic show and balloon modelling, followed by the Hobblers, Michael Anthony, and some local Folk Clubs, then rounding off the afternoon with another session from The Tildens.
Sunday entertainment follows a similar programme as Saturday but starting at 11.00am.
Throughout the weekend there is also Horse and Tractor ploughing demonstrations and competitions with judging on Sunday. Plus a Classic Car and Commercial vehicle display at the museum and at Green Farm there’s a display of Vintage Stationary engine and Farm equipment.
Lots of Craft Stalls and collectables stalls in and around the farm buildings, and for the children there is a Funfair with roundabout and slides, a Raptor display, Face painting, and Train rides.
Hot Food and Drink’s available at both the Museum and Green Farm plus a Real Ale beer tent at Green Farm.
Please put the date in your diary, and hope to see you there, don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, we will keep you up to date.
