Genuinely shocked and delighted my “Salty” portrait won the People’s Choice award this year, especially when exhibited alongside such an incredible high standard across the board at INSIGHT 2026. I know it was a very close call so a huge congratulations to the other artists.

The Waiting Room - Claire Howarth
Preening Swan - Andrew Hazelden
Brock Street, Bath at Golden Hour - Demi Lang
Just Be - Rebecca Maynard
First Fall - Jayne Perkins
From Sydmonton to Kingsclere - Gaila Adair

Salty is a character born from my desperate need to paint how I feel rather than what I see and I’m honestly gobsmacked that this work has been received so well.

I feel quite sad it’s all over for this year but next year is sure to be just as good. A massive shout out to the HUGE team of volunteers who make it all possible and work so hard throughout the whole year.

I’m going to be very busy with commissions over the next few months so whilst I bury my head in to work I wanted to share this and say a happy heavenly bday to the lady in the painting. I never met her but I know she must have been something pretty special to have made the human I know and love.

Earthy vibes, said goodbye to this one today, will miss that fractured weathered face!

Obligatory attempt to pose like my painting for The Opening night of Open Studios!

What a busy week it has been!! Mainly having too much fun to paint or post but what an honour to be a part of the curation team for the second year in row at INSIGHT at The Base. From handing in day all the way through to labelling I loved every minute of it.

If you can, please do pop down and see the exhibition, running from today until the 25th of May. There are over a hundred artists taking part this year across a huge range of disciplines, making it such a vibrant and inspiring show to be part of.

I wanted to get a real handle on the entire process this year as next year I will be taking over from (but mostly working with) our dedicated and accomplished Chair John Brazendale who’s shoes will take me many years to fill. We are so lucky to have such a brilliant, diverse and extremely hard working team of volunteers at Open Studios who work quietly all year round. I can’t wait to do more with them and see what happens next.

I’ve popped the open studios link in my bio, feel free to come and visit my studio on the dates listed… more info to follow 😀
