Tapping the casks! Two of our volunteers spent yesterday bathing in beer (it’s always a risk when tapping a cask as some of them can be very lively so a free beer shower is a hazard of the job!)

First the casks are set to rest on the racking.
Our beers have all rested for one week so far.
Next a wooden spile is driven into the top of the cask. It is hammered into the “shive” (the hole on the top of the cask) and acts as a manual valve releasing any carbon dioxide and allowing airflow such that a pint can be drawn off with the tap.
The final step and possibly the most risky one is driving in the tap itself.

Crabble Corn Mill beer festival starts on Friday. Live music, BBQ and 50 beers.
Beer not your thing? Don’t worry, we also have a selection of 30 ciders and a fully stocked bar too…..
