Folkestone's museum Folkestone Museum opened in May 2017, building on the history of the town's former museum in Grace Hill, which had existed since 1888.

We have been supported in this by the Heritage Lottery Fund, transforming the 1861 Town Hall into Folkestone's heart, it having been returned to public ownership by Folkestone Town Council after being sold in the 1970s. The historic collection, which has grown since its establishment in the 1850s, was gifted back to Folkestone by Kent County Council in 2018 and resides in the Museum. The Museum includes permanent exhibits about the history of Folkestone, both human and natural, with temporary exhibitions, an education centre and thriving programme of events for people of all ages & interest.

Local historian Vince Williams will give a talk all about Folkestone’s Pleasure Gardens. His new book will be available to buy on the night. Vince will be with us all evening to answer your questions. There’s only a few tickets left for his talk – grab one before they run out.

You can enjoy the museum with a glass of w**e if you don't fancy our talk. Get hands-on with some Victorian craft, play some Victorian toys and games, and complete the Curator’s quiz!

Fashionable Folkestone is an event for over 18s. Tickets cost £8 for general admission plus talk, and £5 for general admission. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be available on the night! Check out the ticket link in our comments.

FAMILY MAKE IT!
MIGHTY MOTH HAND PUPPET WORKSHOP
Saturday 10th October

Moths are marvellous! With over 150,000 known species (and many more yet to be discovered!), come along to Folkestone Museum’s Mighty Moth hand puppet workshop to find out more about these wonderful insects. You can make your own moth hand puppet and find out how to go ‘mothing’ in your own back garden.

Drop-in sessions runs from 10:30 - 12:30 & 1:30 - 3:30
Workshops are free but a small donation for materials would be appreciated.

Join us at Folkestone Museum for another Museum Late!

On Wednesday 14th October, from 6:30PM to 9PM, we're opening for the evening and celebrating Fashionable Folkestone. Folkestone changed hugely during the Victorian period. As soon as the railway arrived in town in 1842, visitors flocked to the town, which became *the* place to be.

Local historian Vince Williams will give a talk all about Folkestone’s Pleasure Gardens as part of the evening. His new book will be available to buy on the night. Vince will be with us all evening to answer your questions. There’s only 34 tickets for his talk – grab one before they run out!

If you don’t fancy our talk, you can still enjoy the museum with a glass of w**e. Get hands-on with some Victorian craft, get into our dressing up, play some Victorian toys and games, and try the Curator’s quiz!
