If the rain clouds clear across Monmouthshire tonight, it will be worth a glance towards the skies.

Monday, will be the first of four consecutive supermoons of the year. Not only is it a supermoon but it is also an exceedingly rare blue supermoon, which is a combination of being a full moon, a supermoon and a blue moon at the same time.

The UK last witnessed a blue supermoon in August 2023; the next one is reportedly not until 2037.

The Paris Olympic Games may be drawing to a close, but the Olympic spirit lives on in Usk’s first all-age Pub Game Olympics! 🥳

Here’s how it works:
- Pay £1 per person to enter
- Compete in our four incredibly serious Olympic events: shuffleboard, rink hook toss, bagatelle and jenga
- You will be awarded points depending on how well you did in each event (gold: 3, silver: 2, bronze: 1)
- The overall winner takes the gold medal AND the pot!
- Runner up prizes for silver and bronze

Sound silly and fun? You bet it will be!! 🤪

And any age can take part, so this is a great chance to thrash your kids, parents or siblings! 🤣

No need to book, just turn up and join in on the day.

Something to do while watching the Tour de France 🇫🇷 😊

I'm hoping to take part in the Tour de Fleece 2024!

The Tour de Fleece is an exciting annual event that coincides with the Tour de France cycling race.

Never heard of it?

The Tour de Fleece is a spin-along for fibre enthusiasts who love to spin yarn and work with fibre. Participants challenge themselves to spin every day during the 21 days of the Tour de France turning their wheels or spindles alongside the "spinning" cyclists.

The event was started in 2006 by a knitter, designer, and spinner named Star Athena. Initially, it had just 16 spinners, but it has grown significantly over the years. In 2008, there were over 400 spinners, and currently, there are well over10,000 participants! Even if you’re not into cycling, you can still join in the fun, whether you’re an experienced spinner or just starting out. get ready to spin, connect with fellow fibre enthusiasts, and have fun during this fibre-filled challenge!

How to Participate:
The Tour de Fleece takes place on Ravelry, a popular online community for fibre artists. (If you’re not on Ravelry yet, consider joining—it’s free!) The Tour de Fleece kicks off alongside the Tour de France on Saturday, June 29th 2024. 🧶🚴‍♀️

Moth and Butterfly expert Alfred Russel Wallace was one of the butterfly movement’s founding fathers. After catching an unnamed specimen in 1857, the lepidopterist wrote:
“On taking it out of my net and opening the glorious wings my heart began to beat violently, the blood rushed to my head, and I felt more like fainting than I have done when in apprehension of death. I had a headache the rest of the day.”
Leach says practically every figure in his book experienced similar feelings of physical excitement.
“The heart that pounds is when you encounter something like a butterfly, which is wild and inaccessible, but beautiful,” he says. “And the quest is everything to try to get the butterfly and all that time your heart is racing.
