To mark the publication of our Pilotage Report, in which National Historic Ships UK's Registers Review working group assessed all 59 pilotage craft on the National Registers, we'll be celebrating a selection of the highest scoring and most interesting vessels.

3/ LIGHT VESSEL 21 - VARNE LV21

Status: National Register of Historic Vessels
Type: Light Vessel - Steel
1963: Built by Philip & Son, Dartmouth, for Trinity House, the last such built by Philips
1963- 2008: Stationed mostly off the Kent coast, on the Varne, East Goodwin, and Channel stations
2009-now: Under current ownership, she is used as a maritime heritage facility, as well as art, culture and performance space, based at Chatham Historic Dockyard
