A huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along to support the launch of our latest exhibition, It’s always so rewarding to see the gallery so full of life after weeks of work behind the scenes to get the gallery ready! I’m absolutely delighted to share that the full catalogue of works from the current ‘Surface and Form’ show have now been uploaded to the website.

We’re now back open as usual now…. Thursday - Sunday 10-5pm. Looking forward to showing more of you around tomorrow!

‘Surface and Form’ opens tomorrow (Saturday 29th) and I hope you agree that it is looking incredible in the gallery this afternoon…. As well as a quite a few new artists in the upcoming show- we also have a few gallery regulars including 5 new, modestly sized but perfectly formed paintings by the brilliant Nina Archer - it’s always such a pleasure seeing Nina’s work in the gallery. I’ve started to get work on the walls now and the exhibition is coming together really nicely. The launch event is this Saturday 29th August 2-4pm and we hope you can join us for the celebrations🎉🥂

There are 10 new artists (and 5 gallery regulars) exhibiting in the upcoming ‘Surface and Form’ exhibition which opens this Saturday 2-4pm. All were chosen to take part in this year’s exhibition programme as part of last year’s open call, including last year’s winner - Ruth has produced 6 beautiful paintings for the show which is now starting to take shape and looking super exciting. I hope you can join us this weekend for the launch event which is a brilliant chance to meet the artists and chat about their work in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Hope to see you there!

And the winner of this year’s Open is… Rita Matos for her painting ‘Breathing in the Cold’

As always, it was an incredibly tough decision with so many outstanding artworks in the exhibition, but I kept coming back to Rita’s painting.

It’s not obvious from this image, but those of you who have visited the exhibition and looked closely will have noticed that the work is made up of three separate canvases stitched together. It’s a subtle detail that rewards careful looking, while also speaking to the multifaceted way we experience the world around us.

The painting feels both bold and delicate at the same time. It communicates its central idea with remarkable restraint, yet still gives the viewer space to wonder and bring their own thoughts to the work.

Fantastic work, Rita—congratulations!

And one final thank you to everyone who entered this year’s Open. It’s been one of the most enjoyable exhibitions to be a part of, and we’re incredibly grateful to all 122 exhibiting artists and everyone who submitted work.

Congratulations to the 27 artists invited to take part in next year’s exhibition programme as part of this year’s prize. If you are not on the list that doesn’t mean I won’t be in touch for future exhibition opportunities, especially those of you who have exhibited with us in the past. Thank you so much to everyone who entered our 2026 Open Exhibition, it has been a huge success…. The standard of work gets higher and higher each year, we’ve had a good number of sales and it’s been incredibly busy with so much brilliant feedback from happy visitors and collectors. There are just 4 days left to catch it before it closes at 5pm this Sunday the 9th August.

Tomorrow I will announce the winner!

Time certainly flies when you’re having fun! There’s now only two weeks left to catch our annual open exhibition, I’ve had a brilliant month or so showing visitors round, chatting to artists and art lovers alike. A big thank you to everyone who has visited so far and a special thank you to all of you who have taken artwork home with you or added a red dot to the wall, we couldn’t keep doing this without you all. There are still some absolutely stunning pieces available, for all of you who can’t make it to visit you can view all of the artwork on our website and for those who’ve been meaning to visit… now is the time.

A little reminder that the gallery is currently closed for rehanging whilst we get ready for the upcoming ‘Beneath Open Skies’ group exhibition which will open on Saturday the 25th April. Come and join us from 2-4pm for the launch event. it’s always a great opportunity to chat with the artists and be the first to see the work.
