On Saturday 24 October, silversmith Hannah Souter is spending the day at the bench with us in Dry Drayton. You’ll make a set of three solid silver stacking rings to wear together, wear apart, or give away.

No experience needed. Hannah has taught silver jewellery making in Cambridgeshire since 2003.

10.00 to 16.00, £120. Includes £20 of sterling silver, all tools and hot drinks. Bring a packed lunch and wear something you don’t mind getting a little grubby.

A few spaces left for Sunday’s fused glass workshop.

Join Katie Lynn of molten wonky at the Foundry for a relaxed morning with glass.

You’ll sketch a simple design, then build it up on clear glass with coloured confetti, stringers and fragments. Katie will also show you how to cut your own shapes.
You’ll make two pieces each. Katie fires them in her kiln afterwards, so they’ll be ready in good time to wrap up as Christmas gifts (or to keep for yourself).

No experience needed. All materials, tools and tea and coffee are included. Bring a sketch or a few ideas if you have them, though it isn’t essential.

Today the studio hosted a party! 🎉

We hosted a joint arty birthday celebration for a 4-year-old and an 8-year-old, and Sol Creative Foundry was completely transformed for the day. Craft tables were busy, and around 125 friends and family filled the studio and courtyard.

The little makers got stuck into two workshops:
- Wand and party hat decorating with Sami Henry
- Penguin making from recycled fabric with Steph Norwood

Namaste Cambridge served delicious food with a live dosa counter.

Six workshops this month, from a morning of stitching to a full day at the silversmith’s bench.

There are two Halloween sessions for kids over half term.

Our mindful clay evening on 22 October is also our first Donate-a-ticket workshop with Turtle Dove. When you book, you can give a young woman from their Development Programme a place at the table.

Make something by hand for someone you love this Christmas.

Our six-week stained glass course with Lisa Fretwell begins on 16 October. You’ll learn the copperfoil technique. Over the six sessions you’ll design your own panel, choose a colour scheme, then learn to cut, grind, foil and solder the glass. You’ll leave with a finished stained glass panel, and the skills to design another one on your own.

The course finishes in time for Christmas, so your panel can become a gift.

No experience needed, just a steady hand and some curiosity. All glass and specialist materials are included.

Meet Laura.
Laura’s earliest memory of making is a quilled card, made when she was eight. She has been learning new techniques ever since, most recently mindful embroidery and iris folding, and she’s always looking for ways to make things a little unusual and quirky.

She found teaching by accident. Laura trained and worked in archives, then took a course in teaching adults in 2018, just for fun. It changed her path. She began volunteering as a crafts teacher for a mental health charity and a church, and has been bringing people together to make ever since.
From 2022 to 2024 she co-ran Fantastic Cards, funded community craft sessions for wellbeing in Cambridge. Today she runs Happy Crafters, a series of community craft groups in a café in Histon.

For Laura, making is about wellbeing, fun and creativity, and anyone can join in.

On Saturday 17 October she’s at the Foundry with Stitched Woven Wheels on Felt. It’s a hand-stitching workshop that takes a familiar embroidery stitch somewhere more sculptural. You’ll build raised, woven wheels on felt with cottons, wools and ribbons, and take your piece home.

Beginners welcome. All materials, tools and guidance are included, with tea and coffee.

The Foundry is growing what's on offer, and we'd love to hear from you.

We're especially looking for practitioners to run early morning and evening sessions. Yoga, Pilates, breathwork, tai chi, qigong, mindful movement.

We're also keen to hear from makers running stitching, soap and candle making, basket weaving, macramé, leatherwork, and bookbinding. Kids workshops, coding club, puppet making, stop-motion, life drawing and nature journaling too. Supper clubs, fermentation, tea ceremony and tasting evenings are welcome as well.

If what you do isn't listed, get in touch anyway.

What we offer: a light-filled studio and workshop space with material storage, help with bookings, ticketing and admin, and a fair share of ticket revenue.
