Ceramics workshop with Wysing residency artist Roo Dhissou
Creative Youth Festival 2026 🧡
Wednesday 28 October

Sessions times:
12.15 – 1.15pm
1.30 – 2.30pm
2.50 – 3.50pm
4 – 5pm

As part of Creative Youth Festival 2026, join residency artist Roo Dhissou to make your own time capsule from unfired clay using simple hand-building techniques. Hollow clay forms will be created and filled with something chosen by each participant. A note, drawing, wish, memory, tiny object or found material could be placed inside, and what has been hidden does not need to be shared with anyone else.

Once the capsules have been closed, their surfaces can be carved, pressed and drawn into, with patterns, marks, symbols and fingerprints added to the clay. The clay will not be fired, so the finished objects will remain as raw earth. Over time, they may dry, crack and change. Each capsule can be broken open whenever its maker chooses, whether later that day, next year, or much further into the future.

A playful workshop about clay, hiding, remembering and making something to be discovered later.

Roo Dhissou (she/her) is an artist, researcher, publisher and writer. Her practice spans sculpture, installation, sound, craft, food, publishing and community-engaged collaboration. Grounded in care, her work reflects on disability, lived experience and the entanglement of social, environmental and material justice. Through process-led approaches, her projects emerge and often converge through an ongoing commitment to relationship building, intuition, and ethical place-responsive inquiry.

A full day of creative workshop for young people aged 11 – 18, Creative Youth Festival is an opportunity to be creative in a welcoming and inclusive space, make connections and enjoy time outdoors at Wysing.

Make a Mascot for Wysing with Louise Ashcroft
Creative Youth Festival 2026
Wednesday 28 October

Sessions times: drop in 12 – 5pm

If Wysing was a character what would it look like?

Dream up a mascot for Wysing Arts Centre, a character made from the things we love, value and believe in. Make, stitch, stick and move as you bring your mascot to life as a mixed-media puppet, complete with its own personality and catchphrase.

Louise Ashcroft (they/them) is Wysing Arts Centre’s Young People’s Artist in Residence. They make comedy performances, community projects, and mixed media ‘evidence’ of them meddling with societal systems to ask difficult questions about how we live now.

A full day of creative workshop for young people aged 11 – 18, Creative Youth Festival is an opportunity to be creative in a welcoming and inclusive space, make connections and enjoy time outdoors at Wysing. This year, we have DJ’ing, ceramics, printmaking, mascot making and makeup!

Volunteer day: Spring Bulb Planting at Wysing Arts Centre
23 October, 10am – 4pm

🪻🌱🌷

Please join us at Wysing this October for a day planting native bulbs around our 11-acre site. The session will run 10am – 4pm, but any time you can give is welcome! Volunteers will be provided with hot drinks and light snacks, and given a tour of our site by Wysing’s Environmental Future’s Manager, Brendan Cavaciuti.

The Wildflowers will provide essential feed and habitat for a range of wild animals and support our thriving local ecosystem. In a few years the Wild Garlic will be ready for foraging, adding to the range of edible plants around Wysing’s site.

In Spring 2027, you will be invited back to Wysing for a celebration to see the impact of your work.

FAQ’s + access information:

→ We recommend wearing sturdy shoes, a waterproof in case of rain, and bringing sunscreen in case of sun!

→ If you have your own trowl or bulb planter, please bring them along. Otherwise we’ll have tools on site for everyone to use.

→ No experience needed! Just enthusiasm to join in and have a day outdoors with Wysing’s community and a group of like-minded volunteers

→ Our reception and gender neutral toilets are fully accessible

→ We have plenty of space indoors and outdoors to take a rest

→ We will be planting in our meadow and woodland across our 11-acre site some of which is uneven, but relatively flat.

→ Snacks will be provided, but please bring lunch if you plan to stay all day.

Wysing Arts Centre in the 90’s 🌱

Last week we were joined on site by Bella Milroy .milroy who is currently undertaking their research ‘Centering the Rural: Organisational Identities, Public Engagement and Curatorial Practice at Wysing Arts Centre, 1989 to today’, when we came across these photos of Wysing in the 90’s.

Capital works have seen plenty of change across the site, but mant spaces are still recognisable here – including our farmhouse, and what became our ceramics studio, project space, and many studios.

Don’t miss Wysing Studio artist CJ Mahony’s solo show ‘A Void Being’, opening this Thursday 8th October with CORPUS hosted at The Shop at Sadie Coles HQ!

CJ Mahony’s practice invites confusion between objects and bodies, exploring abstraction as a process of representation and a means of testing the limits of what can be made visible.

Working predominantly with industrial materials, Mahony subjects plasterboard to processes of pressure and transformation, producing works that appear at once architectural and bodily. These labour-intensive and iconoclastic gestures give the works an ambiguous physicality, suggestive of skin, wounds, apertures or thresholds without resolving themselves into any single image or form. Mahony draws upon this tension between visibility and disappearance to unsettle the cultural demand to be seen and made legible.

Open weekly Thursday – Saturday, 12 – 6pm until 31 October 2026
The Shop at Sadie Coles HQ, London

Following their exhibition at The Shop, Mahony will have a solo exhibition, ‘for fragile insides’, at CORPUS, opening on Saturday 14th November.
