Enjoying Deep Water? Why not make your own sculpture inspired by the exhibition to take home! 🛶🛖🌊

THIS SATURDAY 15TH: Join artist Frances Carlile for a creative workshop for children and families. Using a fascinating selection of natural materials collected by Frances, you'll create your own unique house or vessel sculpture to take home.

Suitable for children and families.

We were all very sorry to learn that Sculptor Sue Roberts has died.

Sue participated in many exhibitions at Mid Wales Arts Centre as a member of Sculpture Cymru and the Welsh Group, she was a warm presence and a generous contributor to the Sculpture at Mid Wales Arts Centre.

Sue was a recipient of Arts Council funding and exhibited internationally, she said of her work:

'I explore emotions, feelings, and sensations. My work deals with ideas of beauty. It seeks to magnetically draw in or repel the viewer through the encounter with surface or tactility. I am interested in notions of womanliness and where this leads.'

Cawsom i gyd dristwch mawr wrth glywed am farwolaeth y cerflunydd Sue Roberts.

Bu Sue yn cymryd rhan mewn nifer o arddangosfeydd yng Nghanolfan Gelf Canolbarth Cymru fel aelod o Sculpture Cymru a'r Welsh Group. Roedd hi'n bresenoldeb cynnes ac yn gyfrannwr hael at gerflunio yng Nghanolfan Gelf Canolbarth Cymru.

Roedd Sue yn dderbynnydd cyllid gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru ac arddangosodd ei gwaith yn rhyngwladol. Dywedodd am ei gwaith:

"Rwy'n archwilio emosiynau, teimladau a synhwyriadau. Mae fy ngwaith yn ymdrin â syniadau am harddwch. Ei nod yw denu neu wrthyrru'r gwyliwr drwy'r profiad o'r arwyneb neu'r ansawdd cyffyrddol. Mae gennyf ddiddordeb mewn syniadau am fenyweidd-dra a'r cyfeiriadau y mae hynny'n eu cymryd."

Wonderful attendance and atmosphere at opening of Deep Waters: The collaborative installation and exhibition by Frances Carlile and Junko Burton: ‘Hits all the senses’

Frances Carlile putting the finishing touches to Deep Water. A collaborative installation with painter Junko Burton that fills the large gallery.

Frances specialises in making site specific installations, some of the pieces featured in a major installation that filled Canterbury Cathedral last year, others from the Williamson Museum and Gallery as new work created for the exhibition.

Frances and Junko Burton will be giving a talk and answering questions about their exhibition on Saturday 15th August at 3pm.
All welcome to this free event. Refreshments available.

Frances will also be giving a workshop for children and families from 10-1pm on the 15th, giving you the opportunity to use a wide variety of interesting natural materials she has found.

£5 per child £10 for families.

Gemma Hughes' beautiful Mumma Moon sculpture glowing on Midsummer Night has us feeling inspired - and we're keeping the creativity flowing with our upcoming Creative Writing & Poetry Workshop - Cross Fertilisations.

Join published writer, thinker and art history graduate Ian Munday for a relaxed workshop exploring the creative connections between visual art and the written word, inspired by our current exhibition, The Poetics of Space by Sarah Lloyd MA.

No experience needed—just bring your curiosity. Paper and pencils provided. ✍️

Spaces are FREE but limited! 2-4pm Weds 1st July
