I use fragments of the real landscape from hedgerows, moorland and the sea shore and construct them into fragile sculpture. I employ motifs of house, tree and boat to explore ideas of solitude, quietness and stillness. They provide a human scale and presence in an otherwise limitless landscape.” Frances Carlile

Simon Meiklejohn - Artist, engineer and founder of the Vulgar Earth Artists Collective who present topical exhibitions on social, political and environmental issues.

Simon will be talking about the exhibition, his work and the shared environmental viewpoint of the Artist Collective.

His powerful sculptures are widely exhibited and sought after, he has produced numerous public pieces and private commissions, and is highly regarded in the museum world.

☀️🪴 🌻Summer Mosaics: At this workshop mosaic a summer theme either onto a curved surface such as a small terracotta flower pot or a piece of slate or wooden MDF board.
Themes might include summer flowers, birds, frogs or insects or something else that appeals to you.

🌺The bases for the mosaics and all the mosaic pieces, including tiles, glass, beads, china and ceramics will be supplied but do bring your own pieces if you wish to include them in your mosaic

🔥 Wood Firing Weekend
Friday - Sunday, 20, 21 & 22 June

Our Girel 3e kiln was built in 2024, an ergonomic, economic and environmentally friendly kiln designed by Jean Girel in 2022. It uses less wood than comparable kilns and fires in much less time.
Those coming on the course will be able to participate in the full firing experience.
