NEW in the SS Persia display 📖

A 120-year-old book that narrowly escaped the tragic sinking of the P&O liner SS Persia has gone on display in the Maritime Museum.

Researchers believe someone borrowed 'Rue with a Difference' from the officers' library and took it ashore, then failed to return it. A fortuitous mistake!

Would you have willingly have boarded a passage to India at Christmas 1915, knowing that a U-boat might attack?

Alan Wren's new book, The Ambush of SS Persia, was inspired by the SS Persia display in the Maritime Museum, and reveals the stories of those aboard when it was torpedoed without warning.

Including tales of murders, lovers, villains, outstanding heroes and heroines, his history pays tribute to the 343 lives that were lost that day.

Now on sale at Buckler's Hard, find out more at https://bit.ly/3ko1lOZ

On this day in 1805 the British and Franco-Spanish fleets engaged in battle Cape Trafalgar off south-west Spain.

Among the vessels involved in the Battle of Trafalgar were three Buckler's Hard-built ships; Agamemnon, Euryalus and Swiftsure.

On Trafalgar Day we join the world in remembering this important moment in history.

Buckler’s Hard flourished as a naval shipbuilding centre and became famous for building warships for Nelson’s Navy including Agamemnon. ⚓️

What we want to know is... How many acres of tree were needed to build a 64-gun ship such as the Agamemnon?

Once a residence and then the village school, St Mary's Chapel seats only 40 people but has a surprising history…

Half-hidden in the middle of the west terrace, only a bell, sign and statue provide clues to what lies behind the door of number 82. 👀

Did you know? The altar kneelers you'll see inside this chapel were designed by Belinda, Lady Montagu. 🤔

Could you picture yourself staying here?? 😍

Tucked away on the banks of the Beaulieu River, the Duke's Bath House was built by George, Duke of Montagu in 1760 for the use of his son, who suffered from arthritis. It was thought that the pond in the garden had healing powers 😮

Now available to rent as a holiday cottage, it's the perfect place to stay while you're visiting Buckler's Hard. Find out more at https://bit.ly/31E2pWV

Today Buckler's Hard joins the nation in celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

During the Second World War, Buckler’s Hard became a motor torpedo base. The workforce at Buckler’s Hard also built sections of the portable ‘Mulberry Harbour’, which were towed across to the Normandy coast and played a vital part in the D-Day landings. Meanwhile, Beaulieu River filled up with a variety of landing crafts as they awaited their orders to sail.

Sadly, not all craft and crew reached their destination, but they will all be remembered here on the Beaulieu River – where they started their journey.

The cafe is absolutely extortionately priced. £4.25 for a packaged sandwich, and £2.95 for a small sized sausage roll. We had no choice in paying these prices as we have 2 young children, and wanted to treat them. We didn’t even end up going into the actual place because I didn’t want to pay the entry price after paying for lunch.
Your web site does not work. I have twice now attempted to purchase tickets for tomorrow, and after going through checkout and completing payment card details, it takes me back to your home page with a note saying "Your shopping cart is empty". Do you already have enough customers for tomorrow that you don't need any more?

1 and a bit o’clock
Laid back tranquil place to visit with good amenities
There is a public footpath through Buckler's Hard but the only car park for miles is the one Buckler's Hard owns. The sign says for use by Patrons of Buckler's Hard or the tearooms which is fair enough. Today we went to use the tearooms and then walk our dog but on leaving the car park on foot to head for the public path 10 yards down the road we were stopped by the car park attendant and asked where we thought we were going. We explained and were aggressively told that we'd have to pay for entry. I explained we were patrons of the tea rooms and now simply wanted to walk the dog on the public right of way. Considering lunch for 3 costs more than the £22.50 admission price I didn't think that was unreasonable. I tried explaining but we were shouted at across the road in front of a queue of cars. I went to the tearooms to check and was met with the same very unfriendly response and was told in no uncertain terms that even if we showed a current receipt from the tearoom we could not exit the car park on foot and would have to pay a further £22.50 entry. I am absolutely livid about their policy and their attitude. They have a monopoly and they know it. If you want to visit Bucklers Hard I strongly recommend that you approach by foot along the river bank from Beaulieu and access it for free, but it is a very long way for the disabled or elderly. Shame on you Buckler's Hard.
Had a great day with you today, love the models you've made of some of the ships built at Buckler's Hard over the years - thank you :-)
Lovely visit on Monday 09/04/18 and excellent value for money.
The heavy rain yesterday (3.9.17) did not spoil our visit at all, the museum is fantastic. The river trip most enjoyable. And the coffee was good 😄 Thankyou to all the staff who work so hard keeping this wonderful place running.
Great place of History "Battle of Trafalgar " pub lunch and picnic spot
That place is lovely, I lived in a pub near there a few years ago. The Hare and Hounds in Sway. Have fun xx
An opportunity to add to the visitor's experience has been missed. The Yachtsman's Bar could have been designed to give a glimpse of life in the 18th century. Instead, not only is the style and decor firmly late 20th/early 21st century but visitors then have piped 1960s/70s music inflicted upon them.
