🌕 HARVEST MOON: A CREATIVE CIRCLE EXPLORING WOMEN’S RAGE

Women are often taught to make anger acceptable: to soften it, explain it away, keep the peace and carry on. But what happens when we continually push our anger down?

Anger doesn’t always disappear simply because we don’t express it. Ongoing stress can affect our bodies, contributing to muscle tension, disrupted sleep and changes in how our stress and immune systems function. The emotional effort of holding everything together can be exhausting. Anger can also be a response to being unheard, overlooked, dismissed or treated unjustly. It can hold information about what matters to us, what has hurt us and what needs to change.

This small-group creative workshop invites us to explore women’s rage through art-making and creative expression.

What if, instead of swallowing our anger, we could give it another form of expression?

Using a range of materials, we’ll work intuitively, experiment without the pressure of producing a finished piece, and see what emerges. You’re welcome to bring your own materials, and we will also have a range of materials available at the gallery. There is no right or wrong way to make art here.

We’ll end with an optional sharing circle: a chance to reflect on the work, listen to one another and be heard. There is no expectation to share anything personal, or anything at all.

It’s about acknowledging what we feel, finding different ways to communicate it, and exploring what becomes possible when we allow ourselves the space to express what has been held inside.

🖤 WHO IS IT FOR?
The workshop is open to anyone who identifies as a woman, as well as those who have been shaped by the expectations placed on women around anger and emotional expression. Trans and non-binary perspectives are warmly welcomed. 💖

Before the art, there is the space. 🖤

There is something extraordinary about the building that houses Liberation Art Gallery.

The way the light moves through the rooms. The shadows that stretch across the walls. The colours that shift throughout the day, transforming familiar corners into something entirely different.

A building that never quite looks the same twice.

In art psychotherapy, the idea of the container holds particular significance. It exists both physically and psychologically.

The physical container is the space itself: the walls, the rooms, the architecture, the light, the atmosphere. The environment in which something can take place.

The psychological container is the space created through a sense of safety, trust and acceptance, somewhere feelings, thoughts and experiences can be held safely, explored and given room to exist.

One is the space around us. The other is the space that allows us to be ourselves within it.

Perhaps this is the part that makes Liberation more than somewhere to look at art.

A space holds more than the things placed inside it. It holds moments of uncertainty and discovery, quiet contemplation, conversation, experimentation and connection.

The physical environment is part of that experience, too. Before the artwork catches the eye, the light, the colours, the shadows and the architecture have already begun to shape the way a space is encountered.

A place where art can be encountered, creativity explored and different experiences given room.
