Fancy doing something a little different this October? As part of our Lightpool celebrations, join us at Showtown for an afternoon of creativity, comedy and caricatures!

Whether it's a date with a difference or a get-together with friends, come and learn how to draw a caricature with a published illustrator, all while overlooking Blackpool's famous Illuminations from our Sir Ken Dodd Learning Space. ✨

Draw yourself, your best mate or why not bring along a photo of your favourite celebrity? We're sure they'll be flattered… just as flattered as Mrs Bickershaw was by her recent portrait! 😂

No artistic experience needed, just bring your sense of humour. We'll provide the materials and a glass of w**e (or a soft drink)!

🎉 WELCOME TO SIR KEN DODD AVENUE! 🎉

There’s a brand new name on the Blackpool map, and it’s fit for a King of Comedy! 👑

Adelaide Street West, right outside Showtown, has officially been renamed Sir Ken Dodd Avenue in honour of one of Blackpool’s most treasured entertainers. ❤️

The new street was officially unveiled by Ken’s wife, Anne, Lady Dodd, creating a lasting tribute to a true entertainment legend whose love affair with Blackpool spanned more than six decades.

And we’re incredibly proud to have played our part! Showtown made the official request to Blackpool Council to rename the street in recognition of Ken’s extraordinary connection with the town.

Lady Dodd said: “He always said Blackpool was the ‘Showtown’ of Britain, so it is especially appropriate that the street on which it stands should be renamed after him!”

So next time you visit us, you can quite literally walk down Sir Ken Dodd Avenue and into Showtown to discover his incredible story in Happiness! The Ken Dodd Exhibition.

A little bit of Happiness! now has a permanent place on the Blackpool map. ❤️

You might know the Belle Vue pub just off Whitegate Drive - but do you know what’s hidden behind it?

Tucked away is the historic Belle Vue Strawberry Gardens, once part of a huge seven-acre Victorian entertainment resort with tea rooms, bowling greens, a maze, a lake and even a 2,000-capacity dancing platform!

As part of Heritage Open Days, you can step behind the scenes and discover this little-known piece of Blackpool’s past on a special guided tour.

🏆 Showtown has been shortlisted for a Museums Change Lives Award 2026!

We’re proud that Through Our Eyes: Little People Beyond the Circus has been shortlisted for the Inclusive Spaces Award.

Created with Little People UK and a community group of little people and people with lived experience of dwarfism, Through Our Eyes challenged outdated narratives and put lived experience at the heart of how this history is told.

And the work continues beyond the exhibition. Together, we’ve created a practical toolkit for museums and archives, sharing what we’ve learned and helping others approach collections featuring little people with greater confidence and sensitivity.

For Showtown, which only opened in 2024, this is another significant piece of national recognition - and a further opportunity to showcase the important cultural work happening here in Blackpool.
We’re in excellent company, shortlisted alongside Glasgow Women’s Library for We Make Museums and the National Football Museum for Black in the Game, two brilliant projects doing important work around representation and inclusion.

The winners will be announced at the Museums Association's annual conference in November.
