Blue bleeding into blue✨
Sam Francis (1923–1994) was one of America‘s most luminous abstract painters : a master of color, light, and controlled spontaneity. Bridging Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting, his work drew from Japanese aesthetics, Jungian psychology, and a lifelong fascination with the cosmos.
Created between 1974 and 1975, this acrylic on paper belongs to a pivotal period in which Francis moved increasingly toward works on paper, exploring the tension between the painted form and the untouched surface.
