Viggo Mortensen welcomes us to the Museum’s temporary exhibition:
"Invisible animals describes extinct animals as well as those we cannot see or that are extremely difficult to catch sight of. However, even as it takes into account the importance of legend and humankind`s mytological heritage, the exhibit’s primary focus is scientific. Employing both a naturalist and artitic approach, it is a catalog of what was and might have been, what may exist, and what we yearn to discover."
At this time of extreme planetary stress, biodiversity is key to ensuring global health. Regarding animals, there are many species that we are unaware of despite their importance in maintaining the ecological balance.
Making the lives of these animals and the stories that surround them visible helps us to recognise them as significant and indispensable parts of our world.
Invisible animals can be mythical, extinct or, indeed, living beings, and they link us to realities that may seem fantastic. All the more reason why we should take care of them and protect them.
