🏛️ Why are Bauhaus-Archiv and Fundació Miró twin buildings? Walter Gropius and Josep Lluís Sert, designers of both buildings, met in Berlín, Barcelona, Paris and the United States in many occasions and often worked together. Thanks to this relation, Sert commissioned the design of the Spanish Pavilion during the Paris International World's Fair in 1937, as well as he became Gropius' successor Dean of the Graduate School of Architecture at Harvard University.
📝 As a result, the design of Fundació Joan Miró became an exponent of avant-garde architecture in Catalonia thanks to a a rationalist structure mixed with Mediterranean features, such as a central courtyard, a roof terrace or skylights.
