With just a few days until the opening of Copenhagen Photo Festival, we’re looking back at our exhibitions from the past years.

Anthon Maxus / MAXUS101

Dear friends,

We are delighted to welcome you to the opening of “Imagining God” – an exhibition that explores whether God can be photographed.

Drawing on the philosophy and ideas of agnostic thinker Alex O’Connor regarding the existence of God, we have curated an exhibition featuring the works of eight prominent photographic artists. The exhibition grapples with the greatest question of all, resulting in a collective visual meditation on faith, doubt, beauty, and the divine in the human experience.

The exhibition is part of Copenhagen Photo Festival.

Several of the artists will be present, and we invite you to enjoy a glass of wine and good conversation.

Opening Reception
Friday, June 12th, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

MAXUS101
Ørestads Boulevard 61, 2300 Copenhagen S

( Metro: 8 min. from Kongens Nytorv | Parking at Fields or VM Bjerget )

We look forward to sharing this special evening with you – and to letting the art challenge, astonish, and perhaps even move us.
Best regards

Kadeau receiving its third Michelin star instantly reminded me of one of the pieces from Paul’s solo exhibition at Umbrella Exhibitions.

And look what I found — an 11-year-old note! From when Kadeau had 1 star.

Congratulations to and on the three stars — and to , and .g.bates on holding on to their two.

A special thanks to for transcending the medium of food and art, making the world feel larger and more tasteful.

Thank you also to Umbrella Exhibitions for curating such an outstanding show last year, featuring Paul’s artworks and notes. .exhibitions is well worth a visit — and there’s excellent food close by.

You rock.

Visit the gallery if you’d like to see more of Paul’s tasteful, touching artistic universe.

Tonny Tromborg Sørensen

Tonny Tromborg Sørensen works with high-end equipment and pushes his camera beyond its intended limits — capturing images that are, in one sense, profoundly still, and in another, impossible to leave. They move you. They act as portals.
The camera, pushed beyond its comfort, finds what the eye alone cannot hold: the moment where the physical world becomes transparent to something behind it.

To imagine God is not to picture a face. It is to stand before something vast and feel the ground shift. That is what Sørensen’s photographs do.

A former world champion in Taekwondo and the founder of Von Dutch. But his art is not about biography. It is about what a life of discipline and vulnerability produces
— a quality of attention that, when turned toward the world, finds it trembling with more than itself.

“Jeg satte mig ud i marsken inden solopgang og afventede hvilke fronter Vorherre ville sende ind.” — Henrik Saxgren

Mia Mai’s untitled photographs — coming to life almost like paintings of human longing, developed by water and light — are a testament to the unique quality of photography, and to its ability to say what words cannot.

For me, they open up a deeper question: Are we ultimately searching for God, or is it a more earthly longing — to be fully human, unjudged, and free?

Mia Mai’s works will be a part of the group show “Imagining God” opening June 12 as a part of Copenhagen Photo Festival

“Within Melancholia we were working with moments of classical painterly beauty, which Lars von Trier called Wagner Moments: we tried to find a place where a renaissance painter would have laid down their subject to make them look like they were connecting with God.” — Manuel Alberto Claro, DOP, Melancholia (EKI 05)

—-

This will be the first time we present a work by Manuel that has actually been part of a film. Manuel was awarded the European Film Award for Best Cinematography for his work on Lars von Trier’s Melancholia — and the piece fits perfectly into the curatorial frame for our group show “Imagining God.”

We have previously shown two bodies of work by Manuel Claro at the gallery: Samuel — a coming-of-age series about his own son, which we presented at Copenhagen Photo Festival in 2024 — and Stille liv, a series of photographs taken on and around film sets, but never of the films themselves.

Please join us for the opening of the group show “Imagining God” on June 12 at MAXUS101, as part of Copenhagen Photo Festival.
