💥 Thanks so much for joining the opening of our current exhibition „recollected #2“ last Friday!

From September 18 to October 18, 2026, AFF Galerie in Berlin presents “recollected #2,” a captivating exhibition featuring the works of Jana Müller and Martina Sauter. The exhibition explores how memories are formed and how photography acts as a medium to preserve, alter, and communicate our past.
Two artists, two distinct perspectives:
(1977) presents an excerpt from her long-term project “Mock Rabbit.” Drawing on the biography of her father—a former GDR criminal investigator—she examines crime investigation in East Germany through a powerful wall installation of archival materials, crime scene locations, and everyday objects.

Martina Sauter (1974) debuts her new series “Deep Water,” seamlessly blending her own photographs of interior spaces with AI-generated imagery. Her multi-layered collages combine film excerpts and literary spaces to subtly question the line between fiction and reality.

Save the date! Tomorrow we'll be opening our exhibition „recollected #2“ with works by Jana Müller & Martina Sauter. Opening and artist talk on Sept 18th (all info below)

Martina Sauter (*1974) .sauter presents parts of her new work “Deep Water” alongside earlier works. Sauter uses excerpts from classic films as source material for her multilayered photographic works, combining them with her own images. She creates collages of fictional interior and exterior spaces in which subtle clues reveal the constructed nature of what we see. Places and objects mentioned in novels also become subjects in her photographs. For “Deep Water”, Sauter revisits her earlier working method, combining her own photographs of interior spaces with AI-generated imagery. Created in 2025, the new series is presented for the first time at AFF Galerie.

The exhibition explores the role of photographic and archival images in the construction and reconstruction of memory, as well as the gaps that can emerge between documented history and personal experience.

Curated by Miriam Hüning in cooperation with Sarah Straßmann (AFF Galerie, Berlin).

Join us for our upcoming exhibition „recollected #2“ with works by Jana Müller & Martina Sauter! Opening and artist talk on Sept 18th (all info below)

How are memories constructed, preserved and transformed through images? “recollected #2” brings together two artistic approaches to photography, archives and memory.

Jana Müller presents an excerpt from her long-term project “Mock Rabbit”, developed since 2019. Drawing on the biography of her father, a former criminal investigator in the GDR, Müller traces the structures and traces of criminal investigation in East Germany. Between document and reconstruction, “Mock Rabbit” examines how personal and collective histories become inscribed in images and objects.

Martina Sauter .sauter presents parts of her new series “Deep Water” alongside earlier works. Using excerpts from classic films, her own photographs and AI-generated imagery, Sauter creates multilayered collages of fictional spaces. Subtle details blur the boundaries between reality and construction. Created in 2025, “Deep Water” is shown at AFF Galerie for the first time.
