Het Curacaosch Museum

Het Curacaosch Museum Dit unieke museum, het oudste nog bestaand museum op Curaçao, is gehuisvest in een prachtig architectonisch monumentaal pand uit 1853.

Dit voormalig militair ziekenhuis heeft dr. Chris J.H. Engels samen met zijn schoonvader de heer Rudolf F.W. Boskaljon een nieuwe bestemming gegeven. Mede door de gemeenschap van Curaçao, die 80.000 gulden had opgehaald voor de aanschaf van de inventaris, kon op 7 maart 1948 het Curaçaosch Museum officieel haar deuren openen. De getoonde collectie kunst en nijverheid, bestaat uit meubilair, glas e

n textiel. De voorwerpen dateren uit de 18de, 19de en vroeg 20ste eeuw. U vindt deze voorwerpen verspreid door het museum

Vanaf 1948 werden er vele kunstexposities georganiseerd voor zowel lokale als internationale kunstenaars. Zelfs heeft het museum in 1954, als eerste in Zuid-Amerika, een tentoonstelling van Vincent van Gogh gerealiseerd. Tot op de dag van vandaag presenteert het museum nog steeds een verscheidenheid aan:
• Een collectie schilderijen van lokale & internationale kunstenaars.
• Curaçaosch meubilair uit de 18de en 19de eeuw.
• Traditionele Curaçaosche keuken
• Carillon uit 1951 “De vierkoningskinderen”
• Glas-In-Lood.
• Collectie van de oorspronkelijke Indiaanse bevolking
• Het treintje van de mijnmaatschappij.
• De cockpit van het eerste KLM vliegtuig de ‘Snip’.
• Beeldentuin vindt u bijzondere sculpturen van vrijheidsstrijders uit het verleden zoals Luis Brion, manuel Piar en Willem van Oranje, maar ook moderne kunstwerken van onder andere Yubi Kirindongo, Hortence Brouwn & Philippe Zanolino.
• Botanische tuin.
• De Kiosk die vroeger op het Brionplein
• Het Curaçaosch historisch-cultureel kinderdorp is een afgescheiden veilige plaats waar kinderen onder begeleiding of zelfstandig op ontdekkingstocht kunnen gaan.
• ‘Eksibishon di nos Arte’ een tentoonstelling die één keer in de vijf jaar wordt georganiseerd, biedt het museum de gelegenheid aan amateur kunstenaars om hun werk te exposeren voor een groter publiek.

What a night!

Last night, Gwen Anderson’s Connecting the Pieces opened at The Curacao Museum to a full house.

The evening began with the spectacular unveiling of Big Holy Phones in Blue and Big Holy Phones in Pink, two monumental works covered in shards and created with the picassiette technique.

The energy outside. The reaction inside. The surprise in every room.

Thank you to everyone who came, old friends, loyal supporters and so many new visitors brought to us through Curaçao Museum Week campaign as a Museum Night Event!

Missed the opening? The exhibition is on view until 8 August 2026.

We came bearing culture, stories and a few sweet gifts this afternoon at TeleCuraçao, joining Tra’i Mèrdia with host Glenn Thomas to celebrate Curaçao Museum Week.
