REMEMBRANCE.

We were honoured to welcome Mrs. Igna Pieter, mother of the late Jarzinho Pieter, to The Curaçao Museum and guide her through Rumbo i Rais, where her son is honoured in a portrait by David Paulus, displayed alongside his Blue Wave quilt celebrating Curaçao’s national football team.

The signed shirts on display were donated by the players and became part of our museum collection through the efforts of Tugboat Beach Curaçao and Corendon.

But our identity did not begin on 10-10-10.

Today, we celebrate Land Curaçao and the right to stand in the world under our own name, with our own identity and our own story.

The Curaçao Museum is closed today in celebration of Dia di Pais Kòrsou.

note: This 1644 map, published by Johannes de Laet, is considered the oldest known individual map of Curaçao. “Known” reflects the historical evidence currently available and does not exclude the existence of earlier maps.

The accompanying legend is based on De Laet’s seventeenth-century descriptions, republished by J. H. J. Hamelberg in 1901. Place names and geographical descriptions reflect historical sources and may differ from present-day interpretations. English adaptation by The Curaçao Museum.

This coming Saturday, October 3, is the final day to visit this special exhibition. Join us for the finissage from 17:00 to 19:00 at The Curaçao Museum. Free Entrance.

The curator and the artist will share insights into the creative process, working with personal and sensitive subjects, and how each artwork found its own place within the exhibition space.

Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be an art expert to join us. Curious about the stories behind the works, interested in how an exhibition takes shape, or simply want to experience De Tuinfluiter one last time? Come by.

Congratulations to our Blue Wave on three straight Concacaf Nations League victories.

A beautiful meeting of sport, art and memory: signed shirts from our national team, David Paulus’s quilt honouring the players, and his portrait of the late Curaçao goalkeeper Jarzinho Pieter.
