In this Ming-dynasty album leaf, Shanghai native Lu Shen records a two-day journey through the Shanghai county area in running script. Place names such as Jing’an Temple, Luzi Pu, Tang Qiao, Nanxi, Wuli Qiao, and Shatou allow the route of this 16th-century boat trip to be traced across a landscape that overlaps with today’s central Shanghai.🛶
