Walasse Ting (1928-2010) was a Chinese-American artist whose vibrant, expressive paintings seamlessly blended Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism, and Chinese cultural motifs. Born in Wuxi, China, Ting was self-taught, moving to Paris in 1952 where he engaged with the CoBrA group, and later to New York, collaborating with artists like Sam Francis. His iconic works, featuring vivid depictions of women, cats, and flowers, are celebrated in major collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Longmen Art Projects proudly represents his estate, and his inclusion in this exhibition underscores our foundational role in promoting artists who bridge Eastern and Western aesthetics. Ting’s work embodies the exuberance and cultural fusion central to Longmen’s legacy.
Marking its 50th anniversary, Longmen proudly inaugurates its new Taipei Neihu space, Hyper Arte, under the thematic title Dragon Leaps into New Realms. The same theme extends to Longmen’s presentation at the 2025 Art Taipei International Art Fair, showcasing the artistic journeys of six artists, including Walasse Ting, and tracing the evolution from modernism to contemporary innovation. Since its founding as Taipei Lung Men Art Gallery in 1975, Longmen Art Projects has continuously fostered meaningful artistic dialogue across generations. The launch of Hyper Arte signifies a renewed commitment to building a platform that bridges tradition and the future, expanding the language of art through experimentation and exchange. This presentation stands as both a tribute to the pioneers who defined modern art in Taiwan and a declaration of a bold new chapter as Longmen strides confidently into its next era.
