Let’s get outside and get inky! Lino on the Lawn is a 3-hour lino-cut workshop which will teach the basics of relief printing in an outdoor studio setting in the shade of the trees of the Riverview Community Gardens, located at 300 Churchill Drive. All materials and tools will be provided to create an edition of small prints using oil-based, water wash-up inks.

James Moon is a multidisciplinary artist and art educator rooted on Treaty 1 Territory. Moon utilises installation, printmaking, textile and craft as a means for connection and to take up space. The processes and histories of these mediums are influential in fostering their own ‘kitchen table’ of connection, community and knowledge sharing.

Martha Street Studio is seeking submissions to the Grant Marshall Student Residency. Current students and recent graduates of the University of Manitoba School of Art are eligible to apply.

Application deadline: May 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM CST

The selected recipient will receive:

- Three months studio rental to be used any time before the end of 2026
- One year membership to Martha Street Studio
- $400 artist fee
- $200 materials fee

Introduction to Mokuhanga: Two-Day Intensive Workshop with Lisa Matthias

This hands-on two-day workshop introduces Mokuhanga, a unique water-based woodblock printmaking technique. Participants will design, carve, and print multi-colour images using Japanese tools, paper, registration methods, and watercolour paint. Led by Edmonton-area artist Lisa Matthias, students leave with a collection of exploratory prints and their carved woodblocks.

Lisa Matthias is an interdisciplinary visual artist working primarily in printmaking, sound, and time-based media. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the University of Alberta, a Master of Science in Plant Ecology from the University of Manitoba, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Guelph. 📣 CALLING ALL PRINTMAKERS WORLDWIDE! 📣 Submissions are OPEN for Martha Street Studio’s 2026 Print Exchange and this year's theme is LUNCH!

Printmakers of all levels are encouraged to participate!

Make an edition of 11 prints and receive 10 prints in exchange. Your work will be retained at Martha Street Studio's archives.

Deadline for submissions: June 30, 2026

Submission requirements:
- All traditional printmaking techniques are acceptable
- Paper size must be 5” x 7”
- Image size must be full bleed or smaller
- Portrait or landscape orientation
- Edition size of 11

$25 CAD fee to cover administration costs and return mailing.

Apply now for the Spring session of our Youth Outreach Program!

🌱 Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-8pm
🌱 Tuesday, April 7 – Thursday, June 25
🌱 Application deadline: Tuesday, March 31, 2026

The Youth Outreach Program is a FREE 12-week, 24 class printmaking program for youth between the ages of 16 – 25*. Participants attend both Tuesdays and Thursdays. Learn basic printmaking skills and further your artistic growth with fun, hands-on processes.

If you are interested in the program, please submit a completed application form (see the Education page on our website: https://www.printmakers.mb.ca/education/free-youth-programs/) along with 1-3 examples of your artwork in any medium (drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, etc).

*If you fall outside the age range and are from an equity deserving community, please contact us about the program.

Red + Blue = mud, but cyan + magenta = purple. Confused? Learn why in this introductory Colour Theory course! Cover the basics of colour relationships, from primaries to tertiaries, colour properties like value and tone, and practical use of colour in an image, then put together your own palette with all that you’ve learned. This course will be taught using screen printing techniques.

Bramwell Enan lives and works in Treaty 1 Territory in Winnipeg, Canada, making art where intuition meanders through play into form. Enan holds a BFA (Hons.) from the University of Manitoba and teaches printmaking at Martha Street Studio.

From picture to file to print, this course will introduce participants to the fundamentals of Photoshop as a practical and artistic tool. Participants will work primarily with digital photos with some use of scanned drawings, collage material, or film negatives as they familiarize themselves with preparing, editing, and creating images for print or online display. Technical basics will be balanced with exploratory artistic output. This course is well suited to those with limited prior knowledge of digital workflows.

Alyssa Bornn lives and works in Winnipeg, MB. Her work is primarily centered around ideas relating to transference, failure, and the poetics of technical processes. She makes images and objects informed by an interest in early computing, textile production, domestic spaces, and optical phenomena.
