After a slight delay to her departure we were able to enjoy some extra time with Victoria the T.rex. We feel it’s fitting that as Victoria Day concludes, so too does her time with us. She will be packed up tomorrow and we will be putting some new, exciting specimens in her place. Tours will be closed for the day, but our gift shop will remain open from 10-5pm. If you want to come by, place a hand against the window, and sob while she gets put into her crates…we won’t judge. We’ll be right there with you. :(

It takes a village, and sometimes a herd! Maiasaura, which means good mother lizard in Greek, was the first dinosaur described that had direct evidence of parental care. When fossilized nests of Maiasaura young were found, the juveniles inside the nests hadn’t yet fully developed their leg bones so couldn’t yet walk, however wear patterns on the teeth indicated that these young were still eating the same type of food as the adults. With the presence of adults nearby this indicates that the adults were going out and foraging for food to bring back to the babies. So kids complaining about being hungry seems to be an everlasting event.

All of this to say we here at dinolab wish a happy Mother’s Day to the previous good mother lizards and the current good mother mammals!
