One of B.C.'s most valuable painters lived at Shawnigan Lake.
📍 Shawnigan Lake Museum, Shawnigan Lake

E.J. Hughes lived there for more than twenty years, and one of his paintings sold for $5.7 million in May 2026. The museum's gallery includes a recreation of his studio from those years, plus a geocache project built from coordinates in his own paintings, so you can walk out and stand where he stood.

That's one room. The rest is railway, logging and lakeside history, including a scale model of the Kinsol Trestle.

Then drive 11 minutes up the road and stand under the real trestle.
