Wall Fiction

Wall Fiction Wall Fiction is an online art gallery featuring contemporary and historical fine art on consignment from the secondary market.

View online or in person by appointment. Wall Fiction sells fine art on consignment. Wall Fiction is a second market separate from that of auction houses and specialized galleries. We look for contemporary art by reputable mid-career artists known for creating quality work and historical works by established artists. We provide an online art experience for both new and seasoned collectors. For the

new collector, we offer an unpretentious and affordable entrance into art collection. By learning and browsing “curated” contemporary art online without the pressure of feeling like you need to say right things, you can start building a collection at your leisure. We’ve done the preliminary work for you. For the seasoned collector, we provide an opportunity for both buying and selling. If after years of collecting, learning and reshaping preferences and tastes, you want to change, we sell on consignment work from collectors, estates or down-sizing that galleries operating in the primary market aren’t concerned with and art that doesn’t match the narrowly defined criteria of auction houses. Every piece of art comes with a story. We make every attempt to investigate provenance – the history of ownership of the work – as well as the interesting stories they tell – be it a story about the artist, the subject matter or how Wall Fiction came to it. The word fiction was created late in the 14th century as something invented and was derived from the Latin word fictiō – a fashioning – and the word fingere – something to form out of clay. To us, art is fiction – something created by an artist’s hand and imagination, hence our name: Wall Fiction. In addition to the stories associated with each piece, we also believe that original art sparks ideas and conversation with those who own and display them and therefore has the ability to create new stories. So, whatever the story, truth be told, we take art seriously and the information we gather on each piece is as accurate as we can find. We are art professionals who bring you the experience and training expected in dealing with fine art. We feature work that we believe will not only maintain its appeal but also its value. Great art collections are made of stories lived and shared. Wall Fiction's office is located in Toronto, Canada.

How do you insure concept or performance art that's meant to degrade with time? And how might destruction or degradation change its value?

This week's Globe Advisor by Deanne Gage talks about knowing the value of personal property. It was a pleasure speaking with Deanne and sharing the company of Tannie Ng at Chubb and Heela Donsky Walker with Robins Appleby!

These earrings with blue glass duck heads were uncovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun during its excavation by archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922. The Egyptian god Amun is often depicted as having the head of a duck, making these birds a common motif in ancient Egyptian decorative arts.

'Colour is a power which directly influences the soul' - Wassily Kandinsky, born on this day in 1866. 🟠🔺🟦

Russian painter, Wassily Kandinsky believed that painting should aim to be as abstract as music. He worked to create art that was free from all references to the material world. For Kandinsky, colour in particular was essential for liberating art from representing the visible world. 'Each colour lives by its own mysterious life,' he said.

The original German title of this painting was ‘Schaukeln’, sometimes translated as ‘Shaking’ or ‘Rocking’, but the most accurate English equivalent seems to be ‘Swinging’.

Keith Haring: Art Is For Everybody

Keith Haring was a gifted artist of his time with a distinctive message that still holds true today. He was active in the 1980s developing his unique artistic vocabulary and involved with the cross-disciniplinary art scene at the time (think Madonna, Andy Warhol, Jean-Paul Gauthier).

Haring was spontaneous in his process. This is seen by looking closely at the paint drip marks on his tarp or canvas works. While his artwork was not pre-planned, it was exact. What he did plan was his career and vision. His work was synonymous with activism. He was vocal in his participation of anti-nuclear, anti-apartheid and especially, AIDS activism. In 1989, he set up The Keith Haring Foundation to continue his legacy and message. Later the following year, the artist died at the age of 30 due to AIDS-related complications.

See Keith Haring’s works at the AGO, a collaboration with the Keith Haring Foundation and The Broad (LA), on view until March 2024.
