NOW OPEN | Two Fall Exhibitions:

Qavavau Manumie - Through the Ages

Qavavau Manumie is a seasoned graphic artist based in Kinngait, Nunavut. Manumie is known for his delicately rendered coloured pencil and ink drawings. This exhibition of his drawing works date from 1985 to today, featuring the subject matter for which he is most acclaimed, including climate change in the North, Inuit stories and legends, and fantastical transformations.

Barry Pottle - From Points to Prints

From Points to Prints is an exhibition of photographic works by Nunatsiavut artist Barry Pottle. For many years, Pottle has been actively involved in the Indigenous arts community, particularly in Ottawa and the surrounding region. Originally from Labrador and now residing in Ottawa, home to the largest urban Inuit population outside the North, Pottle uses the camera’s lens to highlight the distinct experiences, connections, and character of this community. Whether photographing cultural gatherings, family outings, or quiet moments in nature, Pottle’s work captures the many dimensions of Inuit life in Ottawa. Through his photography, he creates intimate and thoughtful portraits of community, place, identity, and everyday life.

This year’s Annual Cape Dorset Print Release features work from many exceptional artists, including Ningiukulu Teevee, Laina Geetah, Saimaiyu Akesuk, Quvianaqtuk Pudlat, and newcomers Ashley Qavavau and Kanarvalik Niviaqsi.

The artists represented in this release are an energetic combination of those renowned and emerging, creating a skilled and contemporary 2026 print selection.

Wednesday, September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. On this day, we honour Residential School Survivors, their communities, and families, recognizing the lasting impacts that Canada’s Residential School system inflicted on generations of Indigenous communities. Many wear orange shirts on this day in solidarity with survivors, and in remembrance of the Indigenous children who never returned home.

We would like to recognize the important work of the Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF), a national, Indigenous-led charitable organization that has been dedicated to advancing healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 25 years.

The LHF’s mission is to educate and raise awareness about the history and ongoing inter-generational impacts of the Residential School System and the Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) survivors. Through this work, the LHF supports survivors, their families, and communities on the path to healing and Reconciliation.

Presented by the Art Dealers Association of Canada (ADAC), Canadian ArtHop is a 4-day event with 100+ participating galleries, museums, and artist-run centres across the country.

OPEN TOMORROW | Our latest exhibition of drawings by Ningiukulu Teevee

In celebration of her solo exhibition 'Stories from the Arctic' on view at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, we will be unveiling a collection of new drawings by the highly acclaimed graphic artist, Ningiukulu Teevee. Through her participation in the annual Cape Dorset Print Release, and her commitment to art making, Teevee continues to grow – both artistically and technically – allowing her to treat both traditional and contemporary themes and subject matter.

On Wednesday evening, Onsite Gallery celebrated the opening of acclaimed Inuk artist Michael Massie’s solo exhibition, Michael Massie: Now and Then. ⁠

As one of the greats of contemporary art, Massie's work is held in prestigious permanent collections worldwide, including the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Heard Museum, the Royal Ontario Museum, the National Gallery of Canada, The Rooms, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Massie was inducted into the Order of Canada in 2017 and received an honorary doctorate from OCAD University in 2024. ⁠

His use of various woods and metals with immense precision, his dynamic approach to media, theme and humour is what makes him so deserving of his many accolades.

Opens September 17th | In celebration of her solo exhibition at the WAG-Qaumajuq, we will be unveiling a collection of new drawings by the highly acclaimed graphic artist, Ningiukulu Teevee (Ningiukulu Teevee).

Through her participation in the annual Cape Dorset Print Release, and her commitment to drawing, Teevee continues to grow - both artistically and technically - allowing her to treat both traditional and contemporary themes and subject matter.

Opens September 26th | ‘From Points to Prints’ is an exhibition of photographic works by Inuk artist Barry Pottle.

Selected works highlight Pottle's journey from humble beginnings towards building the foundation for what he calls Contemporary Urban Inuit Art Photography. Through his imagery, Pottle seeks to create a new canon in fine art photography.

A reminder to join us tomorrow evening for the opening of acclaimed Inuk artist Michael Massie's solo exhibition at Onsite Gallery.

Curated by Alysa Procida, Michael Massie: now and then, brings together works from across his career, including a large collection of teapots, previously unexhibited pieces, and a new body of large-scale sculptural installations, to celebrate the enduring importance of joy, experimentation, and humour in his work.

This exhibition showcases Massie’s ability to blend exceptional craftsmanship with thoughtful commentary on politics, community, and Inuit design traditions, all while pushing the boundaries of his own practice and public expectations of Inuit artists.

‘Untitled’ - one of the last works by Inuit artist Tim Pitsiulak 🖼️

Tim Pitsiulak (1967–2016) was best known for the extraordinary drawings which granted him status as one of Kinngait’s most sought-after contemporary artists. He was also an accomplished sculptor, jewelry-maker and photographer.

Pitsiulak divided his time between drawing and hunting. His respect for the wildlife in his region is evident in his large scale drawings capturing the images of walrus, whales, bears and seals. Pitsiulak also expressed admiration for his ancestors by including images from early Inuit culture superimposed on his drawings. During his career he consistently challenged himself as an artist, working in varying scales, perspectives and media.
