🎞️ Fall 2026 Artists Spotlight: Owner of a Lonely Heart ✨

The Power Plant and The Vega Foundation present Owner of a Lonely Heart, a program of recent moving image works by contemporary artists Haig Aivazian, Stephanie Comilang, Alia Farid, Hope Pearl Strickland, and Yuyan Wang.

Haig Aivazian is an artist based in Beirut. He explores the relationships between artificial light, computation, and law, examining how systems of power shape our environments and the ways humans and other beings move through them.

Stephanie Comilang is an artist working between Toronto and Berlin. Her documentary-based works explore how mobility, capital, and labour are shaped by global cultural and social forces. She is the recipient of the 2019 Sobey Art Award.

Alia Farid is an artist based in Kuwait and Puerto Rico. Working primarily in sculpture and film, she explores how modernity transforms collective life, cultural practices, and rituals.

Hope Pearl Strickland is a Manchester-born artist-filmmaker whose experimental and documentary-based works connect Jamaica and northern England through themes of labour migration, diasporic longing, and resource extraction.

Yuyan Wang is a Paris-based filmmaker and video artist who reworks images and materials from digital and industrial media, transforming them through editing into immersive, sensory experiences.

Together, these artists trace the movement of raw materials and examine how extraction and global circulation connect labour, ecosystems, and economies, shaping social identities and our place in an interconnected world.

Join us for the Opening Reception on October 23 for a first look at our Fall 2026 exhibitions!

🪁 Fall 2026 Artist Spotlight: Sharon Lockhart ✨

Sharon Lockhart is a Los Angeles-based artist whose practice spans photography, film, installation, painting and sculpture. Her work explores landscapes and the people who inhabit them, examining layered histories and the complexities of the present through carefully composed images and moving images. Often working on long-term, research-intensive projects, Lockhart builds meaningful relationships with her collaborators and subjects, developing interconnected bodies of work across multiple media.

Sharon’s work has been presented internationally at institutions including the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Milwaukee Art Museum, as well as major exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, Shanghai Biennale and Whitney Biennial.

Her upcoming solo exhibition at The Power Plant, Fogo, features a series of photographs collectively entitled Fogo Island Portrait Studio, depicting the island’s young residents, alongside WINDWARD, a film installation featuring the same protagonists. Together, these works bring to life the island’s striking geological formations, unique climate and austere beauty, reflecting core themes of her practice: an exploration of place, sustained attention and a long-term commitment to the people who appear before her lens.

Don’t miss the chance to be among the first to experience Sharon’s work at the Opening Reception on October 23!

🐚 Fall 2026 Artist Spotlight: Zadie Xa with Benito Mayor Vallejo ✨

Zadie Xa explores diasporic identities, global histories, familial legacies, and interspecies communication through masquerade, play, costuming, and storytelling. Her highly collaborative practice includes ongoing exchanges with dancers and musicians, and she has worked with Benito Mayor Vallejo since 2006. Alongside his own practice, Mayor Vallejo explores painting, installation, performance, and sculpture.

Xa’s work has been presented at Whitechapel Gallery, The Box, Leeds Art Gallery, Remai Modern, Tramway, and Yarat Contemporary Art Space. She has also participated in the Jeju Biennale (2022), the 13th Shanghai Biennale, and Sharjah Biennial 16.

For her first major exhibition in Toronto, Moonlit Confessions Across Deep Sea Echoes: Your Ancestors Are Whales, and Earth Remembers Everything, Xa presents an expansive installation combining paintings, murals, sound, and a mobile sculpture.
