Refuses To Charge | Hanny Khoury (2019)

When absurdity becomes a reflection of reality.

In Refuses To Charge, contemporary artist Hanny Khoury invites viewers into a provocative world where humor, discomfort, and social commentary collide.

Two surreal, hybrid figures occupy an unconventional domestic setting, surrounded by fragmented symbols and everyday objects. Through exaggerated anatomy, expressive brushwork, and an earthy palette, Khoury transforms an ordinary environment into a scene filled with psychological tension and unexpected humor.

The painting challenges our expectations of identity, human behavior, and the contradictions of modern life. Its deliberately unconventional figures and unsettling atmosphere encourage viewers to question what they see rather than accept a single interpretation.

Khoury’s distinctive approach combines satire, symbolism, and expressive figuration, creating a visual narrative that is simultaneously playful, provocative, and thought-provoking.

A compelling statement piece for collectors who appreciate contemporary art that challenges conventions and sparks conversation.

Gonjeshak-e Ashi Mashi | Nasser Ovissi
A Rare Limited Edition — Only One Available now

A beautiful intersection of Persian folklore, childhood memory, and modern Iranian art.

This special hand-pulled print by Nasser Ovissi draws inspiration from “Gonjeshak-e Ashi Mashi” (گنجشکک اشی‌مشی), a beloved traditional Iranian folk tale and rhyme passed from one generation to another.

Ovissi transforms the familiar story into his own visual language, combining Persian writing, expressive figures, and sequential scenes that give the composition an almost storybook quality. Looking closely, the work unfolds piece by piece—like pages from an old childhood memory reimagined through the eyes of one of Iran’s important modern artists.

Executed in the 1960s or early 1970s, the work belongs to a very limited edition of only 50 impressions. Today, all of the editions previously available to us have been sold, leaving just one remaining example available through ERAN Gallery.

For a collector, this is more than an Ovissi print. It is a work that connects modern Iranian art with Persian oral tradition, nostalgia, and collective cultural memory.

Movement, Character & Freedom | Ali Chitsaz

With bold lines, expressive gestures, and an unmistakable sense of humor, Ali Chitsaz captures a fleeting moment of movement and personality in this dynamic work on cardboard.

The exaggerated figure and motorcycle seem almost to merge into one form—machine, rider, speed, and attitude becoming part of the same visual rhythm. Chitsaz deliberately moves away from conventional realism, allowing spontaneous lines, washes of black and brown, and flashes of red to communicate energy rather than detail.

There is something cinematic about the scene: a character caught in motion, confidently moving forward. At the same time, the loose ex*****on gives the work an intimate quality, revealing the immediacy of the artist’s hand and imagination.

A distinctive original work on cardboard by Iranian contemporary artist Ali Chitsaz, bringing together figurative expression, movement, and storytelling.

Lion & Sun Collection | Mehdi Nabavi

A powerful symbol, reimagined through contemporary form.

In this sculptural work from Mehdi Nabavi’s Lion & Sun Collection, one of the most recognizable motifs of Persian cultural history is transformed into a bold contemporary object. The silhouette of the lion is deliberately reduced and almost architectural, while the brilliant golden geometric surface at its center introduces light, reflection, and a striking sense of preciousness.

The contrast between the raw, minimal body and the luminous gold interior gives the sculpture its distinctive presence. Tradition is not simply repeated here—it is reconstructed through a modern visual language, creating a dialogue between heritage, memory, identity, and contemporary Iranian art.

Both sculptural and symbolic, the work can become a beautiful statement piece in a modern interior while carrying a deeper connection to Persian visual culture.

Apartheid
By Hanny Khoury

What appears playful at first glance quickly unfolds into a layered social commentary. In Apartheid, Hanny Khoury brings together figures from mythology, popular culture, surveillance, and fantasy, creating a surreal landscape where innocence, control, division, and identity coexist. From the familiar presence of Mario to the watchful eye of a surveillance camera and symbolic hybrid creatures, every element becomes part of a larger conversation about the boundaries—both visible and invisible—that shape contemporary society.

Khoury’s distinctive visual language blends vibrant color, humor, and symbolism to challenge viewers to question the systems that define belonging and exclusion. Rather than offering answers, Apartheid encourages reflection on the political, cultural, and psychological barriers that continue to influence our everyday lives.

Bold, imaginative, and rich with hidden narratives, this work exemplifies Khoury’s ability to transform complex global themes into captivating visual storytelling.

Lovely piece By Rezvan Sadeghzadeh

A solitary figure stands at the threshold between architecture and nature, between confinement and freedom. In Quarantine, Rezvan Sadeghzadeh transforms a deeply personal and collective experience into a poetic visual narrative. The small balcony becomes a place of reflection, while the surrounding landscape—bathed in soft light and delicate textures—symbolizes hope, resilience, and the human desire for connection.

Created during a period that reshaped the world, this work captures the quiet emotions of isolation while reminding us of the enduring relationship between humanity and the natural world. The contrast between the rigid geometry of the building and the organic flow of the trees creates a powerful dialogue about separation, contemplation, and renewal.

Sadeghzadeh’s distinctive approach combines technical precision with emotional depth, inviting viewers to find their own memories and experiences within the scene. The result is a timeless composition that speaks to both the challenges and the beauty of moments spent in stillness.
