Plant some trees and make some memories! We’re marking the opening of our new exhibit soon, The Tree Planters created by Rita Leistner, by planting some trees in the park on June 6 at 10am! 🌳🪏

We recommend bringing good walking shoes, bug spray, and work gloves. Light refreshments will also be provided. A lifelong memory of that time you planted a tree in Barrett Park is included!

New exhibit opening up soon! 🤩

Montreal-based Photographer Rita Leistner spent a decade as a tree planter, putting over half a million trees in the ground before going on to a career as a photojournalist, and eventually returning to the forest with her camera.

The result is 🌳 The Tree Planters 🌳: a series of large-scale, painterly portraits that document the people behind one of Canada’s most essential and overlooked forms of environmental labour.

The artist, Rita Leistner, will be at the MAG for the opening reception on Friday, June 5 from 5-8pm! There will also be a special film screening of Forest for the Trees by Rita Leistner on Saturday, June 6 at the MAG at 12:30pm, following an Artist Talk right after the screening at 2pm! All events are free to attend!

We can’t wait for you to see and experience this exciting new exhibit! 🖼️📷

There are no cards to count, and we're not really willing to fully endorse this quote, but hey 🤠 the Hootenanny Halfsies pot is growing and somebody's going home with half of it on August 3. Could be you.

A spotlight that we should share - if you see Sheena around, a 🙌 + ‘thanks for sharing your love of the arts with impressionable young minds’ is highly recommended. We hope her retirement means more time for her practice and everything else that fills her cup 🎉

🎉 Retirement Spotlight ✨

Congratulations to Sheena McNiff-Wolfe, Teacher at École Secondaire Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School, on her retirement from Red Deer Public Schools! Sheena reflects on a career enriched by the Division’s strong support for the arts and the opportunity to help students explore new ways of creating as they discovered and grew their artistic abilities.

Thank you, Sheena, for your passion and commitment to the arts and to your students 🎨💛

What did kids do before screens? Turns out - a lot of really cool stuff.
Earth & Sky is a hands-on week exploring early life in Central Alberta: pioneer skills, Indigenous games, traditional handicrafts, and plenty of time to roam and discover the natural world. It's the kind of camp kids talk about around the dinner table.
📅 July 6–10 | Ages 6–13 | Early-bird pricing ends May 31!
