Summer is winding down, fall is right around the corner, and we’re ready to get creative in the studio!

Registration is open for Fall Programs at the AGP, with new and returning favourites for children, teens, and adults. Whether you’re looking to get back into a creative routine, support a young artist, develop your portfolio, or try something new, we've got you covered.

Of particular note this season:

🎨 Art Start, Saturday Art Club, and Art Together are now 8-week programs, giving participants more time to settle into the studio, build creative routines, and grow their skills along the way.

✨ Two portfolio development workshops for teens support young artists at different stages, from preparing for secondary school art programs to developing a portfolio for college or university applications.

💬 Gallery Gatherings: Art & Conversation is a new, free program for adults who are curious about art and want to spend time looking closely, sharing ideas, and connecting with others in the gallery. No previous art knowledge required!

And, of course, there are plenty of opportunities for adults to get creative in the studio, from printmaking and bookmaking to intuitive artmaking, still-life studies, and more.

This summer, our YCW Curatorial and Public Engagement Assistant, Anna Koski-Harja, visited the Peterborough Museum & Archives to explore “Lost Liberties – The War Measures Act,” a travelling exhibition developed by the Canadian Museum of History.

What began as research into Dennis Tourbin, an artist represented in the AGP’s Permanent Collection, led Anna to reflect on the connections between art, media, memory, and moments of crisis.

Her visit became part of a larger research journey, prompting Anna to consider how art and media can document events, preserve personal stories, and shape the ways we remember them.

Have you had a chance to visit, Lyn Carter: The Pinks at the AGP?

This immersive exhibition brings together animation, sculpture, and sound to introduce six quirky, non-human characters that invite us to think about identity, connection, and what it means to be human.

Curated by Mary Reid and Danielle Hoevenaars, “Lyn Carter: The Pinks.
” is on view at the Art Gallery of Peterborough until October 4, 2026.

Lyn Carter works primarily in sculpture as well as drawing, video and animation. She has exhibited across Canada and in China, the U.S.A., Australia, Britain, Spain and Mexico. Her work is represented in a number of permanent collections, among them the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, U.S.A., Cambridge Galleries in Cambridge, Ontario, the AstraZeneca Collection in Mississauga, Ontario, and the Dalhousie Art Gallery in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We’re excited to share that Briar Sutherland has stepped into a new role as Curatorial Coordinator – Public Gallery and Contemporary Collections at the Art Gallery of Peterborough!

Briar has worked with the Gallery for more than 13 years, contributing to exhibition installation, collections management, visitor services, communications, operations support, and volunteer coordination. She holds an Honours degree in Art History with a Fine Art Studio Minor from York University and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Museum Management and Curatorship from Fleming College. Her professional experience also includes work in exhibition coordination, guest curation, cultural heritage, public art, and accessibility.

Through these varied experiences, Briar brings a rich combination of practical and theoretical knowledge to this new role. Her work alongside artists and curatorial teams has shaped a thoughtful approach to how artists and their work are cared for, contextualized, and positioned to create meaning and build connections with audiences.

Briar shares:

“I’m so excited to step into this role and contribute in new ways to an institution and community that has been such an important part of my professional life. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to work across many areas of the AGP, gaining different perspectives on the work of a public gallery and its audiences. Through all of my professional experiences, supporting artists and their work has remained at the centre of my practice. I’m looking forward to bringing those perspectives together in this new role and continuing to foster meaningful connections between artists, artworks, and our community.”
