Gallery in the Attic

Gallery in the Attic Founded in August of 2012 by curator Elizabeth Fennell, the space was run independently, finding its place among the arts community in Peterborough, Ontario.

Gallery in the Attic (GITA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining a space for the show and sale of visual art, an intimate space for live performance by local and touring musicians, and Canada’s longest continuously operating darkroom in the historically designated Roy Studio Building in downtown Peterborough, Ontario. In October of 2015 Elizabeth Fennell stepped down from her admi

nistrative roll to continue on as a regular member and a Board was created to represent the Gallery in the Attic and Peterborough Darkroom Project. As a result, the evolving organization merged into one membership-based Gallery, under the name of the the legally registered non-profit facet, The Peterborough Darkroom Project while still maintaining the name Gallery in the Attic. The space is currently independently funded through the support of its members, fundraising projects, partnerships and generous donations. It also relies on a dedicated group of member volunteers to keep it operating as it continues to grow and pursue sustainability.
