The town of Paris has a deep history rooted in the convergence of the forks of The Grand River and the Nith River.

As Downtown Paris, Ontario undergoes long awaited changes and upgrades, The Downtown Dig has unearthed some of the oldest historical foundations of the town and the reason for its namesake. The mill races that lie beneath the streets of Paris were instrumental in the founding of town upon discovery of deposits of Gypsum on the banks of the river that drove growth and settlement to the area.

Check out the history of the Paris Mill Races video made in partnership with the Paris Museum and Archives to learn more about the earliest history of our beautiful town. Take a tour with Steve Pinkett of The Paris Museum & Historical Society to learn about this important part of Paris history.
