Purple Poppy

When I began this poppy journey I’ve been on now for over a year I didn’t really know poppy’s came in other colours. To my delight I found the purple poppy, I love it because it’s so dramatic and moody. While it’s not my fav colour or flower it is a flower that has meaning attached for all of us. Those who had family in any or all of the world wars the red poppy is a symbol of their sacrifice that we hold dear. The purple poppy also holds meaning that I recently just learned about. This moody dramatic poppy is used to commemorate the service and suffering of the animals used in war. The horses, dogs, mules and pigeons are honoured as the forgotten victims in war and remembered for their service in communications, transport and companionship during WW1 & WW2 and wars around the world with the purple poppy.

Some spaces where creativity breathes in my home, it’s a work in progress but these little corners remind me that sharing my art is a form of self-love and pride in every piece, big or small.

It’s never too late to reconnect with your creative side. It’s where I find my peace among the colors.

My three pieces Poppy Field, Poppies and Georgian Bay Sail are all on display at the Hanging by a Thread show until April 3rd at QEPCCC they have a mixture of fibres wool cloth, wool yarn, roving, sari silk and velvets. I often add other fibres and texture for interest and the whimsy it often gives a piece. Rug hooking gives me a place to experiment with colour and colour mixing and this style of hooking is often referred to as painting with wool.

Today my Oakville Fibre Arts group did a walk around of our current show Hanging by a Thread it is on display now at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre in Oakville. It’s just amazing the talent and creativity this group has. The sharing of materials and techniques with each other is also an important part of this groups core. They enjoy each other’s work, they appreciate it and they help each other. It’s such a thrill to have my rughooked pieces up on the wall in this show, it’s a blessing to be part of such great group of ladies.👏🏻👏🏻

My Oakville Fibre Art group has their annual Hanging by a Thread show on now in Oakville we also are doing two smaller shows in conjunction with or annual show. These two smaller shows are at two local retirement residences The Kensington & Churchill Place we are thrilled to have these two mini shows as part of our community engagement and also giving back to local Oakville residents. Shown here is my piece Red Barn which is in this smaller show along with many other talented fibre artists in my group.
