Lake Nipigon! 📖💧
A heartfelt thank you to Nancy Scott, author of Lake Nipigon: Where the Great Lakes Begin, for generously donating a copy to the Canadian Museum of Water.

Did you know? At nearly 4,800 km², Lake Nipigon is the largest lake entirely within Ontario. 🌊 Surrounded by the rugged Canadian Shield and boreal wilderness, its waters flow through the Nipigon River into Lake Superior, forming part of the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence system.

Lake Nipigon is also a place of rich natural history, Indigenous heritage, and enduring cultural connections.

Thank you, Nancy, for helping preserve and share the story of Lake Nipigon and its place in Canada’s water heritage. 💙

Today, we listen, remember, and reflect.
On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour residential school Survivors, their families and communities, and the children who never returned home.

As we reflect on the truths of this history, may we continue to listen, learn, and take meaningful steps toward reconciliation. Like water, stories connect us—carrying memory across generations and reminding us of our shared responsibility to remember, reflect, and move forward with care.

With respect, remembrance, and a commitment to learning. 🧡

Water connects us to place. Art helps us see that connection in new ways.💧🎨

We are thrilled to share the new exhibitions currently presented by Quest Art School + Gallery, right here in the Midland Cultural Centre.

Alexandra McLaughlin’s Close To The Water paintings capture the ever-changing beauty of Georgian Bay — Mnidoo Gamii, the Great Lake of the Spirit — through colour, light, movement, and atmosphere. Alex asks us, “What is the water you love?” and she has shared hers with us.

Justina Chan Lovatt’s Evocative Landscapes create a wonderful dialogue between water, landscape, and her artistic expression. Her works offer a new way of looking at the landscapes around us.

We love seeing artists explore the many ways water shapes our sense of place, memory, and connection.
