This Museum Month Monday we are highlighting our Markham Community Makers! 🎨✨
Meet our featured Community Makers:
🪵 Jacob Roth - previously a farmer and a mechanic, he used his skills to create beautiful sculptures from various wood, fabric, and metal scraps reflecting scenes from his life, all created in his very own workshop he built himself.
⚒️ William Ellis Beebe - a talented craftsmen known for the quality of his edge in blacksmithing metal tools and objects for agriculture, transportation, and home. He also played a key role in the development of the Box Grove community.
🧵Jane "Jeannie" Ogden - a teacher in the Markham-Agincourt area creating detailed quilts in her spare time, Ogden was a resourceful women using recycled fabrics of suits and dresses with intricate patterns and fabrics, blending practicality with beauty in everyday life.
🖋️ Christian Hoover - Taking a break from farming due to an illness, Hoover created Fraktur (Pennsylvanian German folk art) with stylized lettering and colourful works of art commemorating important life events such as birth and marriage records.
