Markham Museum would like to recognize the outstanding contributions Nina has made over the past summer season. As a member of the Curatorial team, Nina supported a wide range of Museum initiatives and projects. We are also grateful to the Government of Canada for their support in making Nina's placement with us possible during these months.

"I would like to extend a huge 'Thank you!' to Young Canada Works and Markham Museum for the past four months. Having freshly graduated from the Masters of Museum Studies Program at University of Toronto in June, this opportunity has been invaluable to my personal and professional growth. I worked as a Curatorial Assistant - Collections Access Specialist at Markham Museum, alongside an amazingly supportive and helpful team in the Curatorial Department. To Ava, Chantel, Julie, Felicity, and Janet: thank you for believing in my abilities and giving me the strength to overcome my own doubts and anxieties as an emerging museum professional. And thank you to Young Canada Works for making this all possible.

In addition to cataloguing new acquisitions, care and maintenance of the museum’s collections, and delivering weekly camp programs, one of the key projects this summer was to make a collaborative art display with our Art, Fashion, Ceramic Creations Camp. Big thanks to Kyleigh, Queenie, Kat, Kennedy and all the summer camp counsellors and volunteers for their support with this project. Over the course of 3 days, our talented campers were able to create an art display inspired by Pennsylvanian-German fraktur and hex sign folk art. Come and visit Markham Museum to see the completed artwork on display! All the best, Nina" -Nina, Young Canada Works grant recipient

We’re excited to kick off our Music Stage at AppleFest, presented by School of Rock Markham!

Meet our electrifying opener, ELIA!

If you want to be transported back to the feeling of teenage mischief, you’ll want to add ELIA to your playlist. This singer songwriter channels life’s ups and downs into her music, influenced by a childhood filled with melodies. Blending personal experiences with a rock and punk instrumentation, ELIA brings back the 2000s nostalgia discussing the topics that reflect the rollercoasters of youth - from failed relationships to personal growth and reflection. ELIA believes in connecting and inspiring people with her music and guarantees nothing but a fun and down to earth experience.

Catch ELIA live from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on the Music Stage in our Brews n' Bites area.

See you there at AppleFest!

Markham Museum would like to recognize the outstanding contributions Erin has made over the past summer season. As a member of the Business Development and Events team, Erin supported a wide range of Museum initiatives and projects. We are also grateful to the Fleming College’s Museum Management and Curatorship program for creating this opportunity to develop young Museum professionals.

"This summer, I had the opportunity to work with Markham Museum’s Business Development and Events department, where I supported large-scale event planning, sponsorship initiatives, grant research, and development projects.

My time at Markham Museum was an incredibly rewarding experience and allowed me to develop valuable skills in event coordination, partnership development, research, and museum administration that I look forward to carrying into my future career.

A sincere thank you to the entire Markham Museum team for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity to contribute this summer. I am also grateful to Fleming College’s Museum Management and Curatorship program for connecting me with such a meaningful and enriching placement.

Thank you, Markham Museum, for a fantastic summer!" -Erin
