Don Wells: A Creative Force Remembered

The St. Marys community mourns the loss of Don Wells, a multi-talented set designer, carpenter, actor and ceramics artist whose talents graced our stage and enriched the lives of many. Join us as we celebrate the legacy of this remarkable individual whose work with the St. Marys Community Players will forever be etched in our hearts.

A Fond Farewell to a Stalwart of SMCP
Last Friday, February 28th, the St. Marys Community Players bid a bittersweet farewell to one of our most dedicated volunteers, Don Wells, who passed away peacefully at the Rotary Hospice in Stratford, surrounded by his loving family, Sherran, Michelle and Marco. His impact on our community and theatre will be deeply missed.

A Legacy of Creativity and Inspiration
Don's artistic spirit lives on through his scriptwriting and award-winning set designs. His remarkable talent was recognized with a WODL award for best set design for SMCP's 2023 production of The Ghost Island Light, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts and stages.

Unforgettable Performances and Enduring Laughter
Whether as a set designer, master carpenter, actor, or volunteering to paint a set, Don's decades of influence on the St. Marys Community Players was profound. His unforgettable portrayal of the lovably slow-moving butler in our 2016 production of "The Importance of Being Earnest", brought joy and laughter to countless audiences. His beautifully timed stage crossovers during set changes left an enduring entertainment legacy without uttering a word.

A Lasting Impact
Don's presence has left an indelible mark on the St. Marys Community Players, enriching the organization with his creativity and passion. His memory will continue to inspire and uplift us as we carry on his legacy.

We dedicate our upcoming production of Over the River and Through the Woods, his final design, in honor of the life and contributions of Don, a true creative force whose spirit will forever resonate within the heart of our community.

Flights of Angels, Don. And thank you. ❤️
