A couple of weeks ago a group of people came and toured the museum and then went down to Robinson's Store before going home. A lady from this group has lost a watch and is hoping that someone has found it either here or at the store. If you find it please give us a call or drop it off here at the museum as we have her name and phone number. Fingers crossed!

Our museum has lost a great volunteer of many many years, in fact our community has. Barb helped out wherever she thought she was needed in our community. She volunteered for a couple years at museum events and soon became a member on our Committee of Council for the Dorset Heritage Museum.
She was a good friend and will be dearly missed.

Our community was also saddened to hear of Rick Nash's passing. Rick as you know has been another great friend to our museum and has volunteered for many years to be a part of Dorset Heritage Day. Chatting and sharing his knowledge of his craft of canoe making with all who visited. Rick will be missed by all who knew him.

Our deepest sympathy to both of our community families the Kostenuk's & the Nash's for their loss.

This gentleman has been a great supporter of our Museum and Dorset Heritage Day for many many years. His knowledge of the canoe, canoe building, paddle making, scale models of select canoe is immense! Fingers crossed he will be able to come to Heritage Day this June 29th and you can sit and have a chat with him. See you there!

Hope you all have as good Valentine Celebration as they did back in 1948 at the Dorset Ice Palace. Photo of past old Valentine cards.
Dorset News 1948
On Friday February 11 the Dorset Community Club held an Ice Carnival at the rink. Despite the cold a large crowd attended. Many and varied were the costumes. Men’s fancy dress was won by Earl McKay. Ladies fancy dress by Mrs. Wm. Walshuk.
Couple in fancy dress by Mrs. Jack Matthews and Miss Joyce Clayton. Billie Sears—Child’s comic (Mickey Mouse). Little Selby Clayton—child’s fancy.
A group of girls put on a very pretty Valentine drill. The girls were dressed in navy slacks, white blouses and each carried a wand with a large red heart attached. At the close of the drill the girls formed two lines and sang “Walking in the Winter Wonderland”.
A relay potato race was won by Kenneth Flaherty and Oscar Sawyer Jr. The concluding number on the ice was a game of Broom Ball between the married women and single girls, with a score of single girls 2, married women 0, with Miss Daley putting in both scores.
After the carnival the young people danced for a short time in The Town Hall. The ladies in the refreshment booth were kept busy handing out hot dogs and coffee.
Congratulations to all that worked so hard to make the Carnival a success.

On Wednesday Jan. 31 the DH Museum was very pleased to be a part of the Dorset Lions Speaker Series held at the Dorset Lions Club. We showed a selection of our Memories of Dorset short videos. It was a great evening and well attended.

The Dorset Lions generously gave us a donation that will go toward the Memories of Dorset Project aiding us in the creation of more videos. Thank you so very much for having us and for your donation! We appreciated it very much!
