“Gladys and Ernest arrived in Canada from England with their respective families around 1910 and married in 1919. Like many others who found themselves homeless after the Great Fire of 1922, the Newton-Whites lived in one of the relocated Toronto streetcars that had been sent north for temporary emergency housing.”

This series of photos illustrates their life on Lake Temiskaming from 1923 to 1926 and their resilience and sheer determination to succeed.

Today I found a new use for AI - this image on the Jonason home at the Matabitchuan hydro colony had captions on the back (YAY!) written in Swedish. (oops!)

Fear not! AI was able to translate and transcribe and all I had to do was cut and paste!

EXTRA EXTRA - Read all about it!

On the day of the inaugural run of the Nipissing Central Railway - April 30, 1910, THIS happened.

"A sand ballast car, carrying 30 tons of weight, pushed ahead of a motor car, broke away near the Attorney Hotel, on top of the high downgrade and shot through Ferguson Ave at 20 mph."

A big mosty-toasty thank you!

Our board met last night at the museum which was nice and warm inside in spite of the frigid temperatures out! That's thanks to Frog's Breath Foundation who donated funds to replace one of our aging furnaces!
